Falling asleep on a park bench will get the cops to check up on you. Ok, I’m fine with that. Then they decided that he wasn’t giving them the information they wanted, so they decided to arrest him. This sort of thing is why police immunity should be conditional on whether or not the police were acting within the law, within department policy, or at least making an attempt to do so.

Sometimes I wonder if we would be better off getting rid of the cops and handling criminals ourselves.

i think what a lot of people don’t realize is there are state laws, sometimes county laws, and most cities have some type of ordinances which you can arrested for or given a ticket…sleeping in the park probably falls under a city ordinance…still no reason to be a dick about it and arrest someone…having been in law enforcement, there are times and places to make what most of you would probably call stupid arrests and i would agree with you…but they need to be made for other reasons…still, doesn’t mean you have to be a dick when you do it…everyone deserves respect until given a reason they don’t…that’s how i looked at it…you don’t have to respect the uniform but you can show some to the person under the uniform as long as they are giving you respect…i know some of you may not agree with that and that’s fine…i get it…i don’t trust most officers myself…

One problem that I have is the officer stated in the arrest affidavit that “Defendant became belligerent to my requests to assist him medically and remove him from the area” then went on to say that “Jonathan actively resisted by refusing to answer our reasonable questions…”

Refusing to answer questions is not resisting arrest. Now that charges are dropped AND the cops have been officially reprimanded for not following department policy, I will be surprised if this guy doesn’t sue the shit out of the city. Slam dunk.

So brave of them. At least they didn’t attend the same class as these officers… (high blood pressure warning)

The police have always occupied a shadow zone between protectors and thugs. Indeed, when Sir Robert Peel organized the first police force in England, its revenue collection was indistinguishable from the methods of contemporary protection rackets. That, not popular approbation, was the driving force behind police municipalization.

Who was it who said that to test a man’s true character, just give him power?

Cops don’t protect the people from criminals, they protect people accused of criminal activity from the rest of us.
We don’t need cops to deal with bad guys; we can shoot them or hang them ourselves. What we have cops for, is to make sure we’re lynching the right folks…. cops exist to make sure the people’s right to due process is respected. That’s it. That’s all they’re for.

And if they aren’t going to do that, then no…. we don’t need them.

“Sometimes”
You still hold on to some good exceptions rather than the rule.
Even the “good” ones work alongside all the bad ones, and cops, system enforcers, will be the ones going door to door confiscating weapons, not just the few ATF agents. Look at the poor guys during Katrina when they defended themselves then the National Guard showed up with others to take all their guns since they had the audacity to fight off looters, rapists, and murderers.

I say sometimes because I have seen what happens with the total absence of police. See: Mogadishu

      Anon · January 14, 2023 at 3:16 pm

Mogadishu has already been imported; there are somalis in the US, especially places like Minnesota, and it was done with the approval of the system. It still punishes whites with the full force of the selectively enforced law and protects its beloved savages.

About 3,000 counties in the US, but government never allows even one of them to become libertarian as an example to demonstrate how miserable that worldview/lifestyle/municipal organization would be. You might imagine how good the medical care would be in the complete absence of medical licenses/FDA/prescriptions/drug patents/paperwork. Bet there’s be another 80% cost reduction beyond https://surgerycenterok.com Come get an MRI every three months for monitoring purposes if that seems useful to you.

It is best to avoid pension monger donut molester revenue generators for the state.
In the spirit of egalitarian equity, this applies to all comrades of the glorious unity collective. (honk!)
Fear no XXXXL tacticool gear or Punisher comics for children logo as minions of the state can’t move or think quickly.

Many years ago, my ship docked at Port Canaveral for a couple of days for some reason and when I was granted liberty my first stop was this greasy Thai restaurant where I met some interesting locals while getting about half torqued. After that I headed south into a residential looking area a little further away from the pier, found a little store and bought a 6 pack. Then I walked down the street a ways to a kinda dune and thicket area, snuck into a shady spot and let’s say, relaxed for a while.
About the time I was getting ready to pack up and head back to my rack, a couple of Cocoa Beach cops showed up. They saw me emerging from that bushy area and figured I wasn’t there alone and something fishy was going on. They were very suspicious at first but quickly figured out that I was just a sailor grabbing some off time and wasn’t any threat to anyone. They ended up giving me a lift right back to the gate and we parted friends.

Things have sure changed.

See this, right here… cop sees something suspicious, investigates, finds no harm, no foul, hey buddy, need a lift back to the pier?
Thats what is supposed to happen.
    What happened in vegas?
Cop sees sonething suspicious (sleeping on public bench), investigates (wakes individual, determines they are not a cracked out threat to society), YOU WILL RESPECT MAH AUTHORITY!!!!
Ahhhh.. I see where it went wrong now. Some roided out no-nuts with smalldickenergy who should have never been given a badge and a gun HR is to blame?
