The first shots of the next major war will be taken in space. In fact, Russia has already threatened to do so with a hit on GPS satellites.

There’s a history of democratic presidents ordering military attacks when their polls sink. Clinton ordered air attacks on Iraq during his impeachment hearings. Obama ordered a “surge” in Afghanistan. While Eisenhower initially sent troops to Vietnam, it was Kennedy who really escalated things, and then Johnson took it even further.
Now we have Biden and Russia. I’ve already warned my wife when that particular shit show gets started, we’ll lose TV, internet, GPS, etc. and so forth. People will freak the F out. I’ve got bullets, beans and bacon stored up for that eventuality.

Definitely a problem…
Note, however, that their threat list is long, 32 GPS satellites plus hundreds of US and NATO satellites… Given the state of Russian industry these days, I doubt they have more than a handful of anti satellite missiles, of which the first target would almost certainly be US surveillance satellites.
A concert? Yes. As big a deal as some say? No.

If it happens the Chinese and Russians will work together. Can the Navy sail without GPS? Can the Army plot artillery on a map without GPS these days?

As I understand it, the US Naval Academy stopped teaching how to use sextants some time ago. On the other hand, inertial systems have gotten better…

Well, if somebody uses kinetics we might just see the first Kessler cascade in recorded history. I’m expecting it to happen anyway sometime in my lifetime, but wouldn’t mind waiting a bit.
There are alternate ways to kill or disable satellites, of course. Either way the larger the orbit the harder it is to do. It will be interesting to see what happens if someone does take a potshot at one.

I doubt they’d even bother with satellites, cause apparently just a few Russian hackers on Facebook were able to skew an entire election just 5 years ago. I imagine we’d see massive hacker attacks on all major platforms, complete chaos on all online banking accounts, email becomes useless as spam ramps up 500%, phones become useless as extended car warranty calls start coming in every 5 minutes, etc. and so forth. In fact, I’d venture the Russians want the satellites to remain in service just for the fun of f-ing with us.
The Colonial Pipeline attack was just a practice run. Imagine that times 1000. Like I said above, people will freak the F out when we basically lose all internet and cell service. And they already know from last time we won’t do anything about it.
