A comedian at the NY Trump rally called Puerto Rico a floating island of garbage. The left is going nuts, calling the comment, and by extension the entire rally, “racist.”

  • Puerto Rican isn’t a race.
  • Puerto Rico IS an island of garbage. I have been there- and it is indistinguishable from a third world shithole. That has nothing to do with the race or ethnicity of the people there. They could be as white as Norwegians, and I would still say that the place looking like that would still look like a shithole floating island of garbage.

From my post of 2022:

Puerto Rico is a socialist disaster of a state, and if we are being honest, the entire island more closely represents a third world shithole than it does the US. I’m talking politically and visually. The tax rates are high, with a corporate rate of 37.5%, a personal income tax at 33%, and 11.5% sales taxes. On top of all of that, residents also pay US Social Security taxes, but not Federal Income taxes. In exchange, the US pays about $40 billion a year to Puerto Rico. In all, the government of Puerto Rico takes in about $12 billion in taxes, plus the $40 billion in US Federal money for a population of about 3.6 million, or about $14,400 per capita.

I would like to see the place get cut loose to become its own country. I just don’t see the benefit that the island gives the US.

Trivia fact: 1 in every 4 people who reside in Florida are originally from New York, Puerto Rico, or are illegals from Central and South America. As Wilkow says: “You can’t bring there to here without here becoming there.”

I am frustrated listening to, and arguing with, morons.

I agree with you on cutting PR loose, but that reminds me of the morons saying that Texas couldn’t survive by itself. Texas would do quite well by itself, PR would be/is another Haiti. If Trump doesn’t win or doesn’t/can’t do what he is promising, I see America breaking up into several independent sections.

If they had their independence, they would be in the same state that Cuba is in. Broken with no power.

I’ve been their dozens of times with the Navy, they never impressed me.

“Trivia fact: 1 in every 4 people who reside in Florida are originally from New York, Puerto Rico, or are illegals from Central and South America. “

THAT is why I ain’t there no more. Wasn’t quite 1:4 when I left but headed that way. Fast. Enjoy Sunny Florida.

I have many ties here. The tax climate is good. My part of the state is reasonably quiet.
If pressed to move, it would probably be to eastern Tennessee

“Puerto Basura” would be more appropriate. I’ve been there too.

I haven’t been to Florida in 20 years, but back then the Panhandle and northern part of the state were mostly natives. The further south we went, the greater the percentage of senior citizens who spoke Yankee and short brown people who only spoke Spanish. I would have figured at least 1-in-2 instead of 1-in-4.

I only made it down to Tampa, though. I have no idea what the demographics look like south of that.

Closer to the coast than I95 in the east or I75 in the west, and Yankee percentage goes way up.

After years of protests, Vieques was shut down as a target range. Billions had been spent wiring the underwater and surrounding area with test monitors and that all went away. The decision to then close Roosevelt Roads Naval Station was really the end of any reason to keep the island in U.S. control. I would venture that the only reason we don’t walk away is all of the Veterans who live there need the VA services and support.

Mentioned above: “[Puerto Rico] could be as white as Norwegians, and…would still look like a shithole floating island of garbage.”

Actually, no. I recall a thought experiment some years ago wherein the premise was, “Switch the populations of Haiti and Norway then wait ten years. What would you find?”

My response-then and now–is that Norway would become the third-world shithole that Haiti is today, once the Haitians had picked all the available ‘low-hanging fruit’ that could be stolen with the least effort expended, progressively destroying a stunningly beautiful place with no regard for conservancy, economics or the future of its people, merely by following its natural instincts. Entropy reigns.

Haiti–populated solely by transplanted Norwegians (White people)–would have its infrastructure properly managed, creeks and rivers dammed/controlled against torrential rains, water purification and sewer/sanitation plants created to manage daily and surge inputs, stunning First-World hotels & resorts built in the hills & beaches providing work aplenty. Erosion control would be a priority, keeping that awesome soil in the mountains/flood plains and not in the ocean and flooding Port au Prince every rainy season.

Those White people would also see the climate and soil as an agricultural bonanza and would (as in the DR, next door) create a tobacco industry and food crop industry that would take advantage of the incredible–two-harvest-a-year–environment. They would be a net exporter of food for the entire Caribbean.

Ten years! In ten years those pesky Norwegian transplants would turn Haiti into the Lauderdale to Miami strip. Minus the ghettos.

Prove me wrong.

    Hard Look:
    Completely agree with you.

You are describing “Magic Dirt Theory” in reverse.
I am surprised that our genial host has not noticed this. Although I’m sure now that you have “done the math”, he will of course remember.

Indeed, if we import too many shitholers, our country will become the shithole that they import with them.

      Carrie,
Sadly, I and my wife are almost blackpilled at present; take a drive/flight/train/bus into any U.S. city and you may see (as I have) that our “emerging third-world” status is over.

We ARE a third-world nation. We HAVE emerged. At least a third of the people living here have not been born here. We simply have more space, more room to spread everyone out but, where it counts (our cities), we have devolved into shitholes.

There is not one major city in the U.S. that I would enjoy touring even if all expenses were paid by others.

Demographics are the key and, between our less-than-replacement birth rates plus third-world illegal entry we do not have the future that our ancestors had.

It is, in a word, unrecoverable.

Last time I was in San Juan it reminded me of Newark with a beach and Communist workers on strike.

I never cared much about the Olympics, but I think it is stupid that Puerto Rico has its own teams there. They are part of the U.S., not a country.

It doesn’t matter what you think of the Island. What matters is what millions of Puerto Ricans who can vote in the presidential elections think at this moment. It is beyond stupid to insult millions of your potential voters.

Ragin' Dave · October 30, 2024 at 1:08 am

I was stationed in Puerto Rico for over three years. San Juan IS a garbage dump. The people there are some of the most racist people I’ve ever been around. And the socialist mentality, along with the sense of entitlement, makes being around the people there irritating at best. There’s gates over every door and window. Houses are locked down like jails because of the crime rate. Services are third world. There’s a reason there’s so many Puerto Ricans living in the USA. Because Puerto Rico is a floating trash dump.

Rob · October 31, 2024 at 8:03 am

It’s now racist to call a shithole a shithole.
