A Christian school in Kansas changed its stance last year and declared that they were supportive of the LGTWHATEVER community. Donations dried up to the point that they are closing.

Cancel culture works both ways.

It is happens over and over again. No surprises here. Except maybe that they don’t learn from their mistakes.

Is this an example of cancel culture, though? I usually take that phrase to mean, an active attempt by a small but vocal group, to get someone or something fired, ostracized, boycotted, etc. Without the screechers, nothing much would happen otherwise.

In the case of the school closing down, the article makes it sound like a bunch of donors decided, independently, they no longer wished to support the school due to its announced policies. To me that’s more of an own-goal than anything else.

How is it any less of cancel culture than the left going after Chik Fil A? The school went to the left, and those who didn’t want it to shut them down.

Was there a group of people going after the school, demanding that all donors stop donating? Or did many donors just decide for themselves not support it any more?

Maybe this is splitting hairs, but I see the former as cancel culture (e.g. the online equivalent of whipping up a mob with pitchforks and torches), and the other is just market forces at work.

Obviously the people that stopped supporting the school are raaaacist.
