John Meloncamp was giving a political speech in the middle of a concert when one of the people who paid to be there yelled out “Just play some music,” which really pissed off Meloncamp.
The same thing happened to me about 15 or 20 years ago, when I went to see Tonic in concert. In between songs, the band began to complain about what they referred to as “George Bush’s illegal war” and I yelled out “just play the fucking song.” Let me tell you, I almost got in a fight with several nearby concert goers who took exception to that. I don’t understand why some stoner with a guitar’s opinion on geopolitical relations is more valid than my own. If he wanted to pontificate on which guitar or microphone is of higher quality, I would listen because it’s in his wheelhouse.
International relations? Politics? Notsomuch.
Note also that he called the heckler a cocksucker, as if that word was a pejorative slur. That sounds like John wasn’t being very inclusive. In fact, it’s downright homophobic. Hoist him by his own petard.

Someone should tell Mellencamp that when you’re a middle-aged guy, “Cougar” doesn’t mean what it does when you’re a young and “tough” guy.

If he deliberately cut the concert short, wouldn’t that be breach of contract in regards to everyone who bought a ticket?
And SiG, he’s 72. Middle age for him was 30 years ago. I’m surprised he doesn’t need to take 5 or 6 piss breaks during a concert. I know I can’t hardly sit thru a full movie without going at least twice. He probably just cut the concert short so he could take a nap.

Had a similar situation years ago – alleged comedian who spent most of his show making cracks about nuclear power. I found simply getting up and stomping out worked quite well; no need to try to out-shout the man with the microphone.

Agreed with all y’all I’m paying money to be entertained so dance money dance. Would be an absolute sham if someone were to impersonate a member of the Holy Order of the Perpetually Offended and make it go viral he used such a hurtful non-inclusive slur.

This mouthy old tosser. Almost as insufferable as springsteen (who I can’t stand) but made only marginally less aggravating by his lower profile.
The only decent song he ever did was a cover (of “I Need a Lover”) and the best part of that was the two and a half minute instrumental into. Fuck him sideways for his leftist rhetoric and his belief that he can screw his fans (misguided though they may be, to have paid to see him) out of a full show just because no one wanted to listen to his stupid bullshit.
