The Navy is now accepting high school dropouts as recruits.

In 2024, the dropouts are smarter than the teachers. I’m not seeing the problem here….

The greatest tool for Navy and Air Force recruitment was the draft. These days there is hardly any excuse for not having a H S diploma. Failure to have a diploma is indicative of problems in a youth life; mental or physical health issues, delinquent in fostercare or just plain slackers. Sure, there are some exceptions but those lacking a diploma or ged are problematic recruits.

Scraping rust and washing the deck will be about all they’ll be useful for, unfortunately. The decline continues…

You apparently haven’t seen any of the recent pics of our Rustbucket Navy.
Scraping rust or swabbing decks is no longer on the plan of the day anywhere on any vessel in the fleets discernible to the naked eye.

The long-term plan, of course, is to have the military staffed with foreign mercenaries that will not balk at shooting American citizens. Treason. Hang them all.

Retention will fall further when drop outs start receiving promotions without proving merit.

McNamara’s Folly – Here we go again

I have posited the notion that the administration could/would start a conflict prior to the election on the basis that “we can’t change leadership” (LOL to that) while the US is engaged in a conflict.  However, I suspect this (Jan/Feb) is too early, but it would be a good time to start mobilizing the draft/conscription as the UK seems to be planning.  I suspected any real conflict to begin in September/October (a real “October Surprise”) but could use the “successful” completion of such as reason to keep the present administration. To anybody who thinks there could be a “successful completion” please contact me as I have a really good deal going on a bridge for sale in the NYC area.

However, considering the state of our military at this point, warming up the fires for activating the draft would be warranted.
Problems for the Administration would be GenZ (and their Lib/Dem parents) who the Admin is depending on to get “LGB” reelected is a prime draft target plus the possibility of adding “women” of every/any sex to be included as we have trans military officials in the services now and DEI is a big thing.
Being gay/trans/whatever isn’t a barrier anymore with or without any medical procedures.
And “women” can be assigned to “front line” duties as SCOTUS said.  Ain’t “equality” great!
Not sure being pregnant or having kids would be a barrier.
An added bonus would be https://www.sss.gov/register/who-needs-to-register/
“ALL male US citizens and male immigrants, who are 18 through 25, are required to register with Selective Service.”
I would assume that if male immigrants are draftable so should female be as well.
(I suspect the “Border Crisis” would suddenly go in the other direction.)

I suspect the Mideast to be the most likely area as all services (land, sea, air) could be used and would be close to our European allies.
The Pacific/China would be primarily the Navy/Marines, Airforce and the closest allies we have there are Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, Australia (?).
I assume Russia is pulling the strings in the Middle East as they are supporting Iran, etc.
Conflict in that area also cuts off oil, etc. to the EU which helps the Russians.
Oil and its products from the US to the EU have already been screwed up by Biden and the environmentalist.
This will also screw the US economy as fuel prices will go through the roof along with everything else.

I doubt anybody will throw a nuke yet as that would probably start WW3 and 4.
If Iran or another country (Pakistan?) drops one toward Israel, I suspect Israel to respond in kind.

I assume Russia and China will just sit back and laugh and, at an appropriate time, move on the Ukraine and Taiwan.

And those thinking of heading to Canada should realize that if the EU is involved that drags Canada in as well so that safe haven is most likely lost.  I suspect the Canadians would look at any “US Refugees” as cowards and treat them as such. Probably the same with Australia and New Zealand.

Anybody thinking of other countries should look south and start learning Spanish and/or Portuguese.  Maybe Japan BUT they have very strict immigration laws.  Best bet is probably Brazil but driving there is almost impossible so it’s an air or sea trip.

Plus you have a historical precedence: https://archives.jdc.org/topic-guides/the-story-of-the-s-s-st-louis/

In any case what skills do the possible immigrants possess?
I doubt a Masters in Art History Feminine Hygiene Studies with a minor in Male Hating would be acceptable.
If they are a bigtime Hamas supporters, they might try Argentina as most of the Nazis should be dead by now, but their legacy is still there.

Unfortunately, any conflict will rapidly go out of control and in directions unknown to anybody.
Also, look up the NY Draft Riots during the Civil War.

I’m not too impressed with the quality of educated navy mariners, let alone letting in the window-lickers and gang-bangers.
I only have experience with navy ships from a navigation perspective, so I’m biased, but I can say that on a 1-10 scale, my interaction with naval ships and retired SWO’s is that they can’t drive a boat for shit.
At least until 10 years ago, passed over SWO’s could request and receive a 2nd mate’s license as a merchant mariner without taking the test. Coincidentally, with NO exception, I have never seen, ever, a former SWO 2nd mate complete a voyage on a merchant ship without being fired. The 2nd mate is the navigator. Naval SWO’s are not taught basic navigation to the standard of an Able Seaman, a lookout who doesn’t even need to be able to know how to read.
As far as active warships, I have been present at multiple near misses, where a naval ship caused hazardous situation by failing to communicate, outright lying about their intentions when discussing passing arrangements, or an incompetent fool in the chain of command on the bridge watch who keeps their bow pointed at us when we swing wide to give them a wide berth, thereby causing a close-quarters incident involving flare guns, spotlights and general alarms.
God help us, naval ship officers are already half retarded. Now the sailors are going full retard.

Lord of the Fleas · January 29, 2024 at 2:14 pm

Given that public high schools are graduating people who can’t even read, does it really make any difference?

Tree Mike · January 29, 2024 at 2:26 pm

Sure, sounds like a great idea.

Elvis is Risen · January 29, 2024 at 5:25 pm

Is bomb bomb Iran back on the charts?
The three killed were all blacks from Georgia. (h/t-OD)
The navy should build escort vessels and give up on carriers as we already have what about 10 carriers.
Hecho en China ships would come pre-sabotaged?
Remember when no president could wipe it all out in 4-8 years?
Good times.

Porkypine · January 29, 2024 at 9:03 pm

Meanwhile, at the current already lowered standards, one of the local navy bases had a weekend stabbing in one of the barracks. All the commands involved are being very mum about it but the kid is in critical condition and rumint is that if he makes it he’s going to be a vegetable.
How much worse will it be when MS13 or rapefugees from some shithole country openly control sections of military housing or the entire base outright? And yet diversity is a strength.

big Ruckus D · January 29, 2024 at 9:43 pm

Well, now that the Navy is recruiting those who could literally be members of The Village People (“In The Navy”), lowered standards were inevitable, wouldn’t you say?

This will go on at least until the USMIL gets into a situation where it’s scrote gets publicly ripped off. Hell, it might even continue after that. These morons (now running things, to include the .MIL) appear incapable of learning.

ribeye · January 29, 2024 at 10:29 pm

This is because they think they could have had 500 more recruits last year had they not had this requirement, says the article. Considering that anyone competent who really wanted in could just get a GED and then join, those 500 must be a remarkable group. I guess its not news they’re desperate, but dang they are desperate aren’t they.

Itziri · January 30, 2024 at 5:51 am

I choose to look at it this way:

The people being recruited now are our potential OPFOR. The dumber they get the better, IMO.
