I’ll say it again: fuck the police. The one thing on which I can find common ground with gangsta rappers of past notoriety. I (and most people) would never need a cop for anything, provided I could punish a verified perp myself without the threat of interference or prosecution from the state. Yeah, i know that’s vigilantism. And It’d work just fine for anyone who isn’t a shitbag criminal. Would mistakes be made? Yeah, so what? They are now too, under the present “justice” system that pretends – poorly – to be a bastion of integrity and safeguards.
Also, it’ll be difficult to defund these rotten sow bellies when they have a literal licence to steal. Everything they successfully purloin goes into their departments coffers. It is essentially an off-budget funding source. I dream of a day when a cop doing stuff like this can be shot dead and left on the side of the road with no consequences to the victim (and the cop isn’t the victim, to be clear) as the land lubbing pirates they are. Yes, I have come to feel that strongly about it.

I remember reading a story a while back where some guy won a large jackpot at a casino. He requested his winnings in cash, and on his way home he was robbed by cops via civil asset forfeiture. The guy figured an off-duty cop working security at the casino tipped off his buddies.

Fucking cops are just the Revenue Generation arm of fucking politicians. If a cop needed my help to keep from being killed, I’d turn and walk the other way. A thief is a thief, no matter what clothes he chooses to wear.

Nothing new. I remember talking to an ex-cop 30 years ago and this same shit was going on. They target people driving from Texas to Louisiana to go gambling, figuring they’ll be carrying cash. They love smaller amounts, say $5,000 or so. Cause that way the lawyer will cost more than they lost, so they don’t fight it. A lot of people end up bitter but the cops still get the cash.
And yes. Cops are not now nor have they ever been our friends. Not for many many decades.
Asset forfeiture needs to eliminated and the people who pushed it sent to jail. For life.

“Serve & Protect” is only for cops paymasters, no one else.
Sorry, the “circle the wagons” attitude cops have when one of their corrupt cops gets caught is enough for me to write the whole bunch off as corrupt paid thugs for the corrupt politicians they serve.
How often do we see a cop bring a corrupt cop to justice?
Yeah, I thought so. No respect from me for corrupt thugs with a license to steal and kill.

Well we used to call them “the pigs” many years ago. I guess that was pretty accurate in retrospect. Actually, I still refer to them as the pigs or the heat.

DM, you’re in FL; remember when Sheriff Bob Vogel in Volusia had his deputies troll I-95 (especially the southbound side) for any traveler with cash, which they confiscated “because it’s drug money”?
Until there’s federal legislation – which, seemingly, we’re supposed to have had for 245 years in the Constitution – prohibiting any “taking” of any citizens’ property, of any type, without due process this stuff will continue. I note that a (very) few states have enacted their own legislation to prohibit it, but since it’s a major funding method for the local branch of the Geheime Staatspolizei road trips most anywhere pose the same hazard; never forget that “police” are just armed government agents hired to violate your rights under color of law, so learn how to protect yourself verbally – what you say, when and how you say it is critically important – and keep your attorney’s number on speed dial (and, just in case, a couple hard copy business cards in separate places because your phone will be among the first things “confiscated”).
I expect ths situation to get worse, much worse, as more people use cash instead of trusting the banking system now that Trudeau has demonstrated how easily a supposedly democratically-elected federal government can shut that system down.

Excellent perspective. Keeping written information is easy and a great backup. Cash would be okay until it gets really dicey.
I live in FL and recall the reports of Vogel and his “stereotyping” — I think that’s how they targeted the ones they decided to pull over. Of course, if they made a mistake and it was just a family on vacation, they could say “have a nice day.”
