Uncle Samantha is very, very specific on what you can/can’t bring home from the battlefield. Our vehicles/vans and bags returning to Germany from Iraq were searched multiple times. Flashlights in fuel tanks and anti-tamper tags on valve covers and spare tires kinda searches.

A non functioning rifle that is mounted to the wall of a ship is not the same thing as smuggling home a war trophy, and is not enough to ruin a man’s career, especially when you haven’t trained him on the rules. A terrible waste of the money and effort that it took to train him. A reprimand is enough. This is why the military is not very good at management.
