Reports are that a Baltimore high school has 77 percent of the student body reading at an elementary school level. That doesn’t surprise me. When I was a teacher, nearly half of my students were reading at a third grade level.

Wait, wait, wait. Circle back.

77% in high school are reading at all? In Baltimore? That can’t be right.

My wife is a teacher. She is reporting that a large number of the good teachers are ready to quit. To so so teachers and bad ones are hanging in.

Right now they have multiple classrooms where a student is in control. The teachers aren’t allowed to revive disruptive students, if it gets bad enough to call for assistance, the child goes to a room where they get to have fun and “calm themselves”.

There are a number of kids that just wander the halls with two teachers monitoring to help get other students out of harms way.

These kids have kicked and punched teachers with no repercussions.

So there are around 5 students that are disrupting the learning of over 400 students and the administration won’t do anything.

100s of students will leave elementary school with less education because the admin failed to do their job.

Worst thing they’ve ever done was mainstream LD headcases.

When I went to school disruption of other students learning was verboten. I knew dudes that went from school to school until they wound up in the “school for troubled kids.”

Sure, the kid is entitled to an education (at least so they say). But not “Here”. It’s positively sickening the number of kids that get screwed out of an education by poorly parented numbnuts.

I suspect many high school admins would be dancing and high-fiving each other if their charges were doing that well.
