When I was a kid, it was every teenage boy’s duty to go out in the woods in the summer and thin the packs of feral dogs. We went in small groups with .22s and .30-30’s, except for one maniac who went out solo with a semi-auto 12 gauge.

That asshole cop certainly took his time putting a stop to that shit, didn’t he?

Took the words right out of my mouth.

WOW. and I thought the problem in the cities was 2 legged.

There wouldn’t be a 4 legged problem if it weren’t for the 2-legged problem, so…

Philly people, what you gonna do.
That cop will have hours paperwork to do now.
Only one page for a dog bite.

off hand, it looks like either north or west philly. guess the race in those areas ?
one of the best dogs I ever had was caught running the streets of west philly.
he was maybe 4 months old when I picked him up from the shelter
turns out he was a big goofy roadie ridgeback. loyal as anything I ever saw.
great watch dog. unreal with little kids, he never even made a sound with them, but if they started doing something, he didn’t like ? he would start licking their faces like mad until they stop doing whatever it was.
my neighbor’s grandkid. Sky. was maybe 20 pounds if anything and she could do anything to that dog. her mom told me later, that she never worried about her kid up here in the woods as long as Slim was by her side. he was 110 pounds of bone and muscle and heart.
he even left the outside cats alone. but critters like coons and the like. I find them dead near the house and have to get rid of them. kind of tells you something as they are attacking a black man. I wonder why ? again, the area is full of them, so.
and like SKY, I really miss my old buddy Slim.

Nah, don’t bother staying strapped, just have neighbors who run around waving their arms and yelling. That’s the ticket.

Even a reasonably sized – ~4″ – sharp, fixed blade knife would have been useful, assuming the wielder knew how to use it and had the will to use it. Once he was off his feet and down on the ground, though, it’s a different story. In situations like that – being mobbed by dogs – the only solution is violent, savage aggression instantly applied ruthlessly, which requires a mental state change few people can muster.*

Then again, “Forget it, Jake, it’s Philly.”

* In the coming months I suspect some of us may get some practice in that area. Might be a good idea to do the “thinking about” part now rather than when the need is dire.

Where’s Kristi Noem when you need her ?

    EN2 SS · May 3, 2024 at 7:19 pm

Taking care of her own problem dogs, not letting them run loose? That’s what most normal people do.

Jen · May 3, 2024 at 7:52 am

3 pitbulls and a Cane Corso. Attacked dude with brown and white ?terrier/pb. Cop shot and killed Cane Corso, one pb wounded. Dogs still on loose. Man transported, stable condition. No word on his dog.

    wojtek · May 4, 2024 at 1:21 pm

Apparently 2 dogs were found – both have the same owner. So not feral dogs.
No word if other dogs belong to the same owner.

But the owner in question got a ticket – for having dogs loose on the road …

A good defensive knife, like a folding karambit, is a good prohibited area carry weapon for just such a situation as this. This person could have disemboweled 2 or 3 of those dogs in a matter of seconds. At any rate, I despise vicious dogs, particularly the gangster breeds. They are just another enemy weapon normal people are expected to be at the mercy of.

John in Indy · May 3, 2024 at 11:11 am

Probably to the Cane Corso, but in the background is a voice saying “Lucifer, No”.
I haven’t thought about packs of wild dogs attacking since I was a kid and our family had some land in the desert near the Mojave River. Times change, for the worse.

Animals are cool until they aren’t then it’s JHP time.

Funny, Killadelphians seem to have plenty of firepower at night.
