How can we make black students look to be as smart as Asian students? One school has found a way: simply don’t give out awards that have been earned by Asian students.
Next time you see a black student getting an academic award, you can remember this story and ask yourself if there wasn’t a more qualified Asian, white, or Hispanic student who didn’t get an earned award because equity.

Chalk another one up to “the soft bigotry of lowered expectations”. Worse than just the NMS being snubbed; they’re cancelling “zeroes” for non-participation in assignments and work not turned in is simply designated “NTI”, which I guess doesn’t factor into grade percentages.
I wonder how it would work out in the private sector if employees simply said, “Actually, I’d rather not” when given work assignments? Would this not factor into their pay or employment status? I think not… but that’s what these kids are being trained (or set up) for. Bucket of ice water on their silly notions when they hit the real world, but a bit hard on their bankroll if they don’t have savings to cover the down time switching up jobs. If they are working at all, that is.
Just FYI, you may want to update your “Zones” category for New York (Buffalo) – mobs (not sure how they’re organizing yet, probably social media) taking advantage of the blizzard conditions to mass-loot storefronts (apparently mostly owned by local Arabs, some of who are “Rooftop Korean”-ing it).
Mayor is bitching and cops are apparently responding (somewhat, at least, though not preventing apparently) but if I were living out there (or God forbid, working at or owning a business there) I’d be considering picking up stakes.

The Zones are not a rating of overall crime. They were meant to be a measure of political violence and of the support being given to insurgents from local and state government.
I reviewed protests/riots in nearly 500 US cities, and compiled a list of cities where the insurgency was most violent.
I purposely did not include “background” crime and violence- the crime that a city has normally. The ‘zones’ page is a measure of the developing insurgency, not a listing of “ordinary” street crime.
In the case of looting, it is “teens” doing what teens do in redistributing themselves some wealth, and didn’t appear to be politically motivated to me.

These days, anytime I see a black getting any award for anything not connected to sports, I assume there was a more qualified nonblack. It’s just like in “Bonfire of the Vanities” – “Plaques for blacks.”
