The USDA is asking people who grow produce to register their garden. They are calling the project “The People’s Garden,” as if THAT isn’t the most Soviet sounding name used by the government this year.

Interestingly, they say that gardens at private residences are not eligible to be listed, only community efforts.

From the link, People’s Garden are:

“Are a collaborative effort involving neighbors, co-workers, food pantries, master gardeners, conservation districts, USDA agencies, veterans, youth organizations, seniors, faith-based groups, or others.”

Uh, no. If I dig it, plant it, buy the seeds, fertilizer, etc. and water it, weed it, etc., then it’s not collaborative. It’s mine. WTF? Who would register a fricking garden?

If it’s a community garden and you want a grant to cover equipment, rent, etc instead of paying for it yourself, then I can see registering it, maybe…
But you also wouldn’t find me involved with that type of garden!
