The city of Chicago spent $49 on Shotspotter, costing the city a quarter of a million bucks for each Shotspotter arrest, with the system missing 99% of the shots fired. Even when the system DOES work, it takes Chicago PD more than half an hour to respond to one of their own being shot and killed.

In a city where it takes cops a half an hour to respond to a cop being shot, how long will you have to wait when you call them to report the killer breaking into your home?

Answer: The rest of your life.

As Clint Smith once said, “You have the rest of your life to solve the problem. How long you live depends on how well you solve it.”

The report is written to get the contract cancelled. Claims that 1% of shotspotter alerts lead to arrests, that each arrest costs $217k and each conviction $133k are true but meaningless. Shotspotter is just microphones that listen for a certain audio signature. When they hear it, they triangulate the sound’s point of origin then send an alert to CPD to investigate. That’s where shotspotter’s authority, impact, usefulness, control, etc stops. If CPD can’t get to an address within the city within 30 minutes, it’s got nothing to do with shotspotter.

That said, given CPD can’t get to the locations indicated in time to make arrests, or chooses not to make arrests, then yeah get rid of shotspotter because it’s a waste of money.

I had a brick/block retaining wall collapse after some very heavy rains once. I rented a backhoe to clean up the mess. Then I took it off rent and returned it. If you’re done using (or perhaps in CPD’s case – incapable of using) a tool, stop paying for it.

Yes, libs want Shotspotter done away with because it detects gunfire in black neighborhoods. Thus when libs complain about police always going into black neighborhoods, the cops can shrug and say “We went where the Shotspotter report was.”

Libs want Shotspotter removed, so the cops don’t have this excuse, and the libs can go back to blaming “white supremacist cops” for over-policing of black areas. (Despite the top police leadership being non-white).

Those pesky cameras that catch speeders and people running red lights are all racist too.

It’s a waste of money but some hardworking politicians and bureaucrats got a nice kickback to implement the system.

Simple system to defeat with nothing but recorded gunfire and a mobile PA system. You could have the cops running all over town looking for gunmen, victims, and spent brass, and there isn’t any. You could even lure security forces into prearranged ambush using their own system against them. Lucky for them the big city ferals never thought of that.

Red State added cameras to utility poles in hot zones of Crapitol City (CPUSA) and eventually it will get out here as we are just on the county line.
The local Haji 7-11 got shot up Sunday with the front door and windows gone, there is a braids and nails place right next door with strong skunky weed smell at all hours.
Dullards blasting off on New Years aren’t smart enough to look up from the sailfawn and see the camera domes this is why we have Batthouse Barry’s third term with the asspuppet Brandon.
Burning down the steaming fourth world turd FUSA is a solid gold feature.

Nashville bought into Shotspotter some years ago. Some citizens were upset when they found NPD policy was to wait twenty minutes after the last shot before they’d roll a car, “because our primary responsibility is to see our officers go home safe at night.”

The company that makes that bought much of the old GWACs/CavArms. Sold off all the inventory to pay for the shot spotter.
They recently tried to sue KE Arms for the sole purpose of putting them out of business for their updated polymer lowers and the sin of making ARs more affordable.
