As of Sunday, you won’t need a permit to carry a concealed weapon in Alabama and Georgia. That’s right- those two states have gone to Constitutional Carry. The cops are opposed to this, and many times they claim that they are opposed to it because it makes it more difficult to fight crime. However, in at least one case, the cops have let slip that the real reason for the opposition is that CWP fees are a major source of funding.

“And those fees that are generated by the permit go directly to law enforcement purpose only…For instance, here at the sheriff’s office in Lee County, we use that for training and education primarily,” Sheriff Jones adds.

With gun permit requirements out the window, Sheriff Jones says they’ve already seen a 30 to 40% decrease in revenue. While it has not put a dent in their budget, he says sheriffs in smaller counties throughout Alabama have expressed concerns about how they’re going to make up for the loss.

It’s all a grift. I ask you this- why do you need a driver’s license? You say that it’s to make sure that each driver knows how to drive? Yeah? So why does it expire? What’s that you say? So they can make sure that you aren’t blind or otherwise have a disability that prevents them from being safe behind the wheel? So how can you make sure of that when a driver renews by mail? My guess is that collecting the fees is the real purpose there.

A Florida driver’s license costs $48 and is good for 8 years. So, $6 a year times the 18 million licensed Florida drivers equals $108 million.

A Florida concealed weapons permit costs $45 and is good for 7 years, or just about $6.50 a year. Multiply that by the 2.6 million Florida permit holders, and you see that the state gets another $17 million a year.

Permits are all a grift.

Yes it is.
And the training he speaks of has nothing to do with tactics or customer service.
It is mostly woke, racial, sexual, ” don’t get us sued,” fertilizer.
Mandated from above to indoctrinate not train.

For a while, now, I’ve been thinking that’s what’s behind the Florida rinos killing constitutional carry every year. That and the evergreen lie of “I support the second amendment” line they campaign on. They can always say things like that and then not deliver on it.

While I enjoy living in a state with no income tax, they still need revenue and they get it any way they can. There’s still those deep blue counties that want “more gubmint!!” I’d like to see numbers comparing the typical outlay on all taxes (property, sales, other things) for Floridians vs. other states.

Constitutional carry is fine except USC 922(q)(2)(A) makes it a felony to carry in a school zone…..and they’ve EVERYWHERE.
USC 922(q)(2)(B) exempts you IF you have a state-issued carry permit.
A lot of people will not be aware of the restrictions and assume because the state allows it, the federal law doesn’t apply.

Very well then essentially MOST taxes are grift. A Florida CWP costs considerably more than $45.

just about everything we are required to pay for is a scam…insurance, fees for this and that…all of it…the benefit to having an actual permit is the reciprocity (actually spelled it right) aspect…unless neighboring states start allowing your peeps from your state to carry without one…

Licensing of any sort is fundamentally wrong. In a licensing regime, the government confiscates your right to do something and sells it back to you under some pretext of “the public good.” But the true public good is undermined by putting a statist seal of approval on some practitioners and denying it to others. In point of fact the State is incompetent to determine such things in the first place. To add insult to injury, the licensing authority is inevitably captured by the approved practitioners and used to stifle competition. (Cf. George Stigler)

Look, $peed trap$. $peed trap$ everywhere.

They will still get a considerable number of ccw permit requests. Folks will want the reciprocity with other states.
