For the past 36 hours or so, I could not access the blog’s admin pages. I could access the website as a viewer, I could access the server. As near as I can tell, all of the other websites hosted here on this server were functioning.
Looking at the server, we were not experiencing a large amount of traffic, so this wasn’t a DDOS attack. Still, every time I tried to log in, I got an error saying that my database was missing. I logged in to the server last night, intending to restore the site from a backup, and it was working again.
Odd, that.

Someone making a copy? Standard practice to lock a database when it’s being updated, backed up or copied; does your database have auto-locking for updates?

It’s a common problem over at AnonymousConservative.com, but mostly it’s posts disappearing and reappearing. His host provider seems helpless to deal with it.
Of course, WordPress is notoriously flaky anyway.

From my perspective, occasionally, sometimes more frequently than others, your website doesn’t update for a couple of days. As a long ago site moderator, It’s aggravating to me as a visitor and I know it’s pissedoff time for you.

There are times when I don’t post for a couple of days. That’s caused by one of three things:
1 I am out of town or at work and just can’t post.
2 My muse just isn’t up to the task of posting
3 I’m just too tired to bother with it.
When I know ahead of time that I won’t be posting for a few days, I will put in a couple of posts for those days before I go.
Sometimes, I just don’t know ahead of time.

I know when you are busy, no problem. I’m speaking of at the bottom of articles, the posting date doesn’t change. “By Divemedic, 18 minutes ago” will stay that way for a day or two. You’ll work it out, I’m patient, but don’t tell anyone that. 😉
