This has been the case at the border for a while. My policy is to remove the SD card, factory reset the phone. Just in case there is search history that they might consider bad.
In a serious situation, take a burner phone and just forward your normal number to it.

Per the article – In Reffitt’s indictment, the FBI said as much, arguing that compelling Reffitt to unlock his computer by sitting in front of it “would not run afoul of the defendant’s Fifth Amendment right against self-incrimination.”
ANYTHING the FBI says is suspect and they (FBI) is twisting the USC (as you stated)

I guess the easy answer, is to use a code that you have to type in each time, for keyboards, I’m pretty much in favor of pass phrases.
