The ATF has just banned smoke grenades.

Being as there are commercial fireworks that can accomplish similar results, how long before the donut gang comes after them? Same with books that show you how to make your own? I won’t list the books, but I’m sure many of you are familiar with the titles. Same thing for the ingredients needed to make your own. Soon to be verboten also?

I don’t think that there are fireworks that do the same. Once the grenade format is gone (pull the pin and toss) the utility of fireworks to “do the same” is nonexistent.

That’s the reason behind this. They don’t want the citizens to be able to resist. Any law or regulation that accomplishes that is what they will enact.

Agree that commercial fireworks are not the same. But similar results can make them a usable alternative when nothing else is available.

Something is always better than nothing.

Thank you. I have seen some responses that a few companies may have gotten exemptions to that that require the user to take a proficiency test for a safety certificate basically, but I have not had the opportunity to look into it in detail yet.

There are the zipped up mouth label CCP firecrackers that sound like a shotgun and you certainly don’t want to be too close when they go off.
I’m sure there will be some similar smokebombs.
Remember when they banned drugs?
You can’t find any, the quality is low and the prices are high. (not really)

Smoke, paint grenades, airsoft/paintball grenades, I’m hearing they’re not happy about the cold pyro stuff you’re allowed to use on no-burn airsoft fields.

The reasons they cite are absolutely laughable. If they care so much about fires started by kids playing in the woods (the handful of fires that I have seen started by a kid using pyro when he was told not to were all put out within short order sometimes with the offenders blanket used as a fire beater) why dont they care about cartels burning national forests for grow ops or malicious action by invaders.

Much like people should absolutely not have bought wine bricks during prohibition that explicitly warned what you should not do on the side of the box to make hooch. Our dear friends should absolutely not look into or make rocket candy heavens no.

Funny, I just bought a case of them at a fun show yesterday. Yay me.😎

These fucking wankers. Yeah, this’ll make the listed items a bit more difficult to get. All they succeed in doing is putting legit businesses out of business with this regulatort garbages. They really think the sort of guys they are scared shitless of will be deterred by this new rule? Alternatives will be developed, and now it’ll be even harder for them to know who has the stuff, because there won’t be retail purchase records from (now formerly) legit suppliers they can raid to find out. Drive it into the black market, and watch it thrive, off the radar.

As was already pointed out, their wild success with prohibition and “the war on (some) drugs” shows they are neither serious or competent. This will knock casual buyers of these products out of the mix, but those who are the underlying cause of their fear aren’t’t going anywhere. And now they just pissed those guys off a little bit more, as a bonus. Go ahead and keep squeezing, assholes. The pressure is bound to come out at a place and time you aren’t prepared for.

Pffsh. Smoke is the simplest of all pyrotechnics to make. Container doesn’t matter (plastic is great, makes even more smoke when it burns); any black powder or smokeless gunpowder mixed with an equal weight or volume of sugar or other carbon fuel will make tons of smoke. Hell, if you want homemade CS, add a bunch of dried powdered habaneros (or their spicier cousins)…

Banning shit like this will just make it easier for those who wish to have such things to avoid detection, as you won’t simply be able to track the purchase records back to those who’d like to acquire them. Materials to make a rather sophisticated smoke grenade are stupid easy to get from innocuous sources, and it doesn’t require a whole lot of skill, either.
