How about this: President declares a nat'l emergency re: mass shootings, gun violence. Uses his powers under those circumstances to ban assault weapons. Promises to lift the emergency when Congress takes long-term action or shootings fall to avg. level for advanced countries.

This. I may make some heated remarks on a strictly observational basis as regards what I believe will need to be done in correcting the problems this country is facing. But I’ll not speak of doing anything out of bounds myself, nor will I attempt to goad anyone else into doing them on my behalf. One may interpret a posted comments in any way they choose, which is itself a risk of commenting in a venue like this, all the more so anytime “wrongthink” is the subject of discussion.
Of course in the current hostile legal environment that is probably a distinction without a difference, as the beast will get anyone it wants gotten. But there is using questionable judgment in posting, and then there’s being outright stupid. I endeavor to avoid the latter.
