Below is a sign that governments know that an armed population is far more difficult to defeat. They are afraid of their citizens until a greater threat presents itself.

The truth is that an armed populace can’t be enslaved or subjugated. The most that an enemy can do is try to wipe them out- and whether that enemy is an outside force or their own government, an armed people is a formidable foe.

I wonder what fraction are going to be checked back in once things settle down.

from what I read this morning they have extremely strict rules on who can be armed…50 bullets at a time… it sounds like it’s a red state gun toting country but it’s nowhere near that…

It’s more like Massachusetts. I say this from personal experience. In my case it took a letter from a Col in the IDF to get a permit.

They also have restrictions on the number of rounds you can keep. It was a while ago, but I recall 100 rnds of 45 ACP was the legal limit.

Almost every firearm you see in Israel is owned by the state. And the state disarmed the settlers before evicting them from the Gaza and contested areas of the west bank.

Regardless of your view of the settlement movement, being able to be disarmed by the state in that fashion is never good.

Gun sales continue to break records month after month.

And this friends is why the U.S. has a Second Amendment that tells the government that the people have the right to keep arms and take them with them as opposed to standing in line, filling out paperwork just when you really need that gun.

I wonder if this will change things in Israel moving forward. I don’t know the gun laws there, but if weapons are centrally stored at these “shooting complexes”, the fact that they had a surprise attack with bad guys focused on killing and kidnapping civilians, maybe they will allow guns stored in the home. It might have prevented some of these kidnappings

The civilians must have the mind to shoot, to kill if necessary.
Given that the populace is conditioned to not carry arms, I wonder if arming civilians will result in delivering arms to the enemy.

I wonder what means will the Israelis establish to condition the people to not hesitate?

I think the fact they were caught completely off guard and the severity of the atrocities will be enough to wake folks up. I just read an article where 40 children were found murdered, and some -including babies!- were found beheaded. How can anyone defend the fucking animals that did this? But yet they are out in the streets right now around the country praising support for Hamas and Palestinians. So I think folks who witnessed and survived the violence will be pretty motivated from now on.

Update: Israel is arming folks quickly:

Hopefully they change their laws and allow more widespread bearing of arms permanently. Good on them for implementing this, but a little too late if you ask me.

I had to think about this to sort out my reactions. Of course this is a move in the right direction. And having a weapon and 50 rounds is better than no weapon. I’m getting amped up at the gall of the .gov who just effed up, deigning to let me have 50 rounds. I could see NYC or Boston or someplace like that being this retarded, I’m disappointed that the normally-pragmatic Israelis have slipped so far. In the past (like Ma’alot in the 1970s) after something horrible, they changed their anti-gun rules and did what needed to be done right then to get some armed folks out there. I think you’re right, even now with Hamas rampaging across southern Israel, the Israeli .gov is still more afraid of their own citizens being armed.
I’m still sympathetic to the Israelis, but you know, collectively they voted for a lefty euro-socialist type government and they’re sure getting what they voted for.

I was pissed when Israel relinquished the West Bank. I was further inflamed when they handed over Gaza. This especially since immediately after that, the Arabs have used Gaza strip to harass and terrorize Israel.

Was discussing this with someone else, who brought up something that I think needs the correct framing or perspective. I was all indignant about the 50 round limit in this, and someone else pointed out the old saw we’ve heard about how to use 1000 rounds of ammo. Should you train with 950 rounds and keep 50, or should you not train and sit on a pile of 1000? Sure, you should train with the 950 and keep 50 in reserve.
The problem I have with the Israeli thing is that you just KNOW that this isn’t what’s going on with the Israelis who have their guns locked up at a police station. If it takes current events to get them 50 rounds, I am sure they are getting 50 rounds or less each year to train, and have 50 rounds on hand.
Pathetic.

wish i could find the link where i read that…and who knows how true it is but that was basically the story…they are super strict about who and where you can be armed…it’s almost that bad in some libtard blue cities…

There are two small countries which are surrounded by other countries that, from time to time, have threatened it with extinction.

One created a culture of gun owneship, bolstered by country-wide shooting competition, and issued fully automatic firearms and ammunition to its citizens to keep at their homes.

The other very severely restricts gun ownership by its citizens and requires that its military members not on actual duty carry unloaded firearms.

The first country is Switzerland. It has never been attacked or invaded.

The second is Israel.

Israel’s gun laws make NooYawkCity look like a Libertian Paradise.

Also, that 50 round limit is “take and have at home”.
You can, its said, shoot whatever you want at the range as your wallet allows.
But their Permit Process is for pistols to have at home.
The pic is rifles, which apparently can be “owned” but “stored at a gun range for use on premises there”.

There’s a push to increase the “at home ammo to 100 rounds”.
But most people there won’t qualify for the “own a gun license”, so yes, the Israeli gov is more scared of their own people.

The threat just presented itself. McCarthy is on one of the Bolshevik enemedia going on about auntie Semitism, calling out Russia, Iran, China, by name and stating that we “must” come to the aid of our indispensable ally.
Everyone rally around now for our number one ally as we just gave air time to our esteemed republican comrade.
This “crisis” won’t be wasted and what about our border or who comes to our aid?

Apparently, some in the Israeli government are starting to see the light. Will be interesting to see if this becomes permanent and not a temporary measure.
