Cory Booker (D-NJ) and Andy Kim (D-NJ) introduced the Federal Firearm Licensing Actlegislation that would require that individuals obtain a federal firearm license before purchasing or receiving a firearm. A license would require:

  • Fingerprints and background checks
  • Signoff from local officials
  • Be required for each firearm
  • Expire in 5 years
  • even being arrested or accused of a crime is enough for denial
  • License holders would be placed on a ‘watch list’ called “RAP Back”
  • prohibit a licensee from giving or loaning a firearm to someone else without using a dealer

No. Just no. This is so incredibly unconstitutional.

I can imagine a lot of states on both sides of this fight. California, Minnesota, Colorado, all of New England on one side. Texas, Florida, Tennessee, Kentucky, Indiana, Iowa and most of the other states on the other side.

The Supremes, despite asserting that their power comes from the Constitution, have been shitting on it since about 1789.

When things like their regular unconstitutional decisions regarding the Second Amendment, they just shrug and say [translated] “We got away with it before, so we’ve decided it’s totes OK.”

My customary response to this sort of nonsense: Put the text of your proposed legislation in a word processor. Find & replace “firearm” with “printer” and see if it passes constitutional muster.
