And they still serve and respond to people… hence why people still have a good opinion of them.

That isn’t new- it has ALWAYS been so. If the dispatcher determines that there is a possibility of violence, the fire department and EMS stage at a safe distance. Why? They don’t carry guns. This is going back at least three decades.

As a former cop I have great respect for firemen and medics. But we had our humor too, as an accident reconstructionist I would refer to the Fire Dept as the ‘evidence eradication team’. We always enjoyed poking fun at each other, but I would have laid my life down for any one of them.
