I am trying to make the website look a bit less plain. Let me know what all of you think.

I like the new look, clean and simple.

Steve S6 · October 26, 2022 at 8:52 am

Once I figured out where the post to post navigation without returning to home 😀
Looks good.

Don Shift · October 26, 2022 at 8:55 am

I liked the old format. Easier to scroll between posts and the white is too harsh.

    Divemedic · October 26, 2022 at 8:58 am

I agree that the white is harsh. I am thinking of changing the background color once the format looks good.

    Terry · October 26, 2022 at 9:04 am

Easier scrolling out-weighs the crisp formatting. I vote for the old ways …

DB · October 26, 2022 at 9:06 am

Looks good, actually I didn’t mind the old look… I am here for the quality content. Keep up the good work.

Dirty Dingus McGee · October 26, 2022 at 9:20 am

A little more contrast, maybe darker color on the text, would be nice. Some of us don’t have the sight we used to.

Misfit71 · October 26, 2022 at 9:32 am

Really like the look and overall layout – could do a background texture, or varied background between post and side bars and/or picture background that is washed out and kind of blends into the background to add some depth (gradient/opaque)

Matthew W · October 26, 2022 at 10:01 am

Looks fine.
Could remove the white background

Anonymous · October 26, 2022 at 10:16 am

Except for the bright white, I like the new. But (you knew there was a but) I’m on a low bandwidth here, so I start loading the 9 blogs I read every day, go make coffee, then come back and everything is ready to read.

Mind you, it’s not awful that it takes 10-15 seconds or so to load the “Read more”. I just take the time to savor another slug of coffee. But if I had my ‘druthers…

D · October 26, 2022 at 10:16 am

A darker background would be good–but I’m not here for the design, I’m here for the content. 😉

Aloysius · October 26, 2022 at 10:53 am

Please, please, please include the entire post rather than an abbreviated version. It is not any hardship to scroll through the parts you want to read and someone who reads really fast can read the whole post quicker than clicking back and forth. Please.

Will · October 26, 2022 at 11:18 am

I would prefer the grey text be a shade or 2 darker. Tired old eyes you know.

nunya · October 26, 2022 at 11:38 am

thanks for the effort but I also prefer the older & simple style

it's just Boris · October 26, 2022 at 12:19 pm

Bolder font would be useful; text looks quite “thin” at the moment and is hard enough to read on a laptop, let alone a phone. That would probably alleviate some folks’ issue with a white background. (Given a bolder (e.g. thicker stroke) font in black, moving away from a white background will actually decrease the actual, and perhaps apparent, contrast.)

For instance, although the font is smaller, and it’s blue not black, I find the text for the links on the right-hand side more readable than the “thin” black font used in the body of your post.

The mountain pic at the top is nice, but it’s missing hobbits being led by a wizard…

it's just Boris · October 26, 2022 at 12:21 pm

Sorry for the quick 2nd post but … Are there quick links for prev / next posts? (As differentiated from the “recent posts” list on the right.) Those were very nice to have.

joe · October 26, 2022 at 12:40 pm

looks good… if you haven’t changed the color it’s a black background on my phone using brave browser…

kevinH · October 26, 2022 at 1:18 pm

As long as the content remains the same, I’ll be here…

WDS · October 26, 2022 at 2:21 pm

New look is OK, might be a little rough for those of us with “morning eyes” but that’s nothing the brightness button won’t fix.. Glad to read the grandson is making positive progress.

Wyowanderer · October 26, 2022 at 2:36 pm

Looks good.

BobF · October 26, 2022 at 3:12 pm

Clean and classy but agree the white is harsh. Not sure if navigation is more difficult or if it’s just that I have to learn the new.

Papa · October 26, 2022 at 3:38 pm

Both old and new look good.
I did not care for the blue-green background of the old.
The new format looks clean, neat.
Good masthead photo. Will you keep it, or rotate different pictures?
Perhaps have a photo that represents your worldview, or a blend of diving and medical.

Miguel GFZ · October 26, 2022 at 5:24 pm

I like it…

Phil B · October 26, 2022 at 7:06 pm

I prefer the older version of formatting and the complete article at once without having to click a separate link to continue reading.

Or go for white text on a white background. That way I can swipe the text with the cursor and have white text on a sage green background … Yep – the internet DOES need a sarcasm font.

Anonymous · October 26, 2022 at 7:07 pm

Nice

Big Ruckus D · October 26, 2022 at 8:38 pm

New format has two downsides: thin sans serif font on a white background is tough to read. Second is that on mobile (running Brave) it barely gives room for the comment entry window with the keyboard on screen.

Also noted the current comment count isn’t shown on the title bar for each post, again this is on mobile.

Brian_E · October 26, 2022 at 9:37 pm

I agree with issues most reported here:
Longer load time due to increased bandwidth or harder for server to generate the page?
No apparent next/prev links like prior format – forcing return to the homepage (a problem mostly due to slow page load time – fewer page loads = better),
Slightly darker or heavier stroke font for post’s body text would be helpful.
All in all – I’d prefer my suggested suggested changes, but this is your place – and I’m but a guest. 😊

Mike · October 26, 2022 at 10:38 pm

Looks good, DM. Clean, tight, simple. I like it.

t0x · October 27, 2022 at 6:01 am

The site has a good, clean look to it. As other’s have suggested, can you bump the font-weight up just a bit and bring back the next/prev links of the old site.

John · October 27, 2022 at 6:53 am

I liked the old look…it followed the KISS principle! With that said I appreciate your insight and would read the blog on stone tablets!

Don Curton · October 27, 2022 at 7:11 am

Once you click a post to read it (and the comments), I’m not seeing the older posts/newer posts links to navigate to the next post. Either I’m blind, or else I have to back up to the main page then click again to read the next post. Minor issue.

TechieDude · October 27, 2022 at 7:52 am

Overall, I like it. Previous/Next buttons on the full post would be nice.

Chip · October 27, 2022 at 8:36 am

I prefer the older with the entire post visible without clicking through. Thank you for the excellent content.

Zed · October 27, 2022 at 2:04 pm

Print is too small to read easily, and the contrast is very poor.
And I agree with Chip.
The older Site was much more “Consumer Friendly” IMHO.

DBM · October 27, 2022 at 4:41 pm

Like others have said… the format looks good but I would add prev / next links after the post for easier site navigation.

FeralFerret · October 27, 2022 at 6:53 pm

Too bright background and the font is too small for my liking. Otherwise not bad. The old was rather plain in appearance.
