The June Tac Pack arrived last week, but I must admit that other stories took priority. I heard about Tac Pack and decided to give them a try. It’s sort of like a “jelly of the month” club, but for gun guys. The way it works is that you subscribe, they charge you $60 a month, and you get a package of random gun related stuff.
You will remember that I was trying out the Tac Pack back in May, and I said I would review it for another month, so here goes:
This month’s Tac Pack had the following items:
- A Quikcord paracord holder. The manufacturer website lists it at a $35 value, but I am not sure that I would pay that for 20 feet of paracord and a chemlight inside of a plastic holder. I can get the cord for $6 and chemlights for a buck. Call this a $10 value.
- A Zippo fire starting multitool. Value: $19
- Antiwalk AR pattern pins. Value: $12
- some 8×11 paper targets. Value: $4
- Muzzle Device Alignment Shims. Value: $14
- An “Equalizer” which appears to be a brass knuckle disguised as a bottle opener. Value: $15
So the total value is right around $74, or $99 if you pay MSRP. A couple of items that I can use, but the fire starting tool is the only thing that I think is cool. Judging by the (lack of) interesting stuff from last month, I don’t think this is worth the money. I can accumulate miscellaneous junk on my own without a subscription.
I don’t think it is a ripoff, but I also don’t think that I want to spend $60 a month on it.
EDITED TO ADD: I went to cancel, but they have already billed me for the July shipment (they bill on the 20th), which means that I will get a third box.
As usual, the disclaimer: I don’t advertise, and receive nothing for my reviews. I have no relationship with any products or vendors that I review here, other than being a customer. I pay what you would pay. I only post these things because I think that my readers would be interested.

I get spam emails, ads, etc. for this sort of monthly subscription stuff all the time. And my thought is pretty much the same as yours, even if it is worth the price of admission, I can accumulate junk just fine all by myself.
I got an entire closet full of crap, fire starters, fancy can openers, specialty multitools, keychain AR sight adjustment do-hickey, etc. And every time I could actually use a certain thing, I end up just grabbing a pair of pliers from the toolbox in the garage anyway.

Thanks for the input, was skeptical about the whole subscription thing sounds like I’d be better off just buying what I need/wanted.

And you’re right!

They must have known box 2 was crap so they billed you for box 3 before you could back out. Business decision.

They bill the box on the 20th, and ship it by the 30th. The June package was late in shipping (June’s pack didn’t ship until June 21) and did not arrive until after July had already billed.

I think it’s a good concept — except that someone who doesn’t know you curates the stuff. To me, it’s interesting to research prices, brands etc. And, of course, read customer reviews.
