In the entirety of the biological world, the strong seek to prey on the week. Every living thing in the world is in competition with other living things for food, shelter, and someone with whom to make offspring. Similarly, throughout recorded history, weaker nations have been conquered by stronger nations. That’s just how life works.

If you are the leader of a weaker nation, you need to seek the protection of a strong ally, or a coalition of allies who together are strong enough to fend off an aggressor. For the past 80 or so years, that ally has been the United States. The nations of the world have turned to the US and begged for help from the US time and time again. The US has responded by lending out its treasure and the lives of its sons and daughters over and over again, largely without ever asking for or receiving anything in return. Many of the nations receiving that help have then criticized and bad mouthed the US the entire time they were receiving handouts.

It hasn’t just been other nations. The citizens of the world keep coming here, sneaking into our country, accepting handouts, then badmouthing the country the entire time. The American people are tired of it. We are no longer willing to be your bitches. So we have elected Trump.

Trump is the embodiment of a business ethos- you want our help? What is in it for us? The only thing that Ukraine and Zelensky have to offer us is mineral rights. Zelensky doesn’t want to do that. Trump has him over a barrel- you grant us mineral rights, and we will help you by securing a peace deal. Refuse that deal and continue the war, you are going to do it without our blood and treasure. That’s just how it is. We are under no requirement to fight the wars of the entire world.

If Ukraine can’t accept those terms, they are free to ask the European Union, the UK, or Canada. When those nations pledge their help and can’t deliver it, the US will be happy to come to an agreement to loan them some money on terms that both nations find acceptable. No more free rides.

With that being said, the reality is that Ukraine can’t win against Russia without outside help. Even with all of the help they have been given, the best that Ukraine has done is fight to a bloody 3 year long stalemate. At this point, Ukraine has been given nearly $400 billion in aid over the past three years, including $120 billion in weapons. That places Ukraine in 6th place for military spending worldwide in terms of real money, and as a percentage of GDP, Ukraine is spending three and a half times as much as any other nation.

I have heard Europeans call the US every name in the book because we won’t just give them our money. Whatever. Every time you insult us, the cost of our help should increase. Show some gratitude and come to a deal or fuck off.

My social media feed is filled with people from Poland, Canada, and the Czech Republic who are calling the US bullies and other names because we won’t go to war with Russia on Ukraine’s behalf. There are also tons of lefty Americans demanding the same. To those of you who are aren’t American- pressure your own country to go to war with Russia. To those of you who ARE American, put your money where your mouth is:

Money?! Keep the money.
PUT YOUR ASS IN THE BUNKER ON THE FRONT LINE!!!

Oh, no no no, none of them will be doing THAT.

That’s what insults me the most. Everyone is happy to pony up money and missiles, sho-nuff. The only people dying have been Ukrainians and Russians (and apparently a handful of Norks, too, but who cares about them?) Everyone else simply needs to STFU…. No skin in the game means you don’t get a seat at the table.

… by the by, just how in the fuck do you call losing 1/3rd of the territory that used to be your country, a stalemate? What, that nipple of useless land called “Kursk” is equivalent in your eyes? Jesus Christ you’ve got such jingoistic myopia, for a smart guy, I can’t figure out how you are so blind. The Ukies are getting their asses kicked, even w/ all the western military aid (which is what you really have a hard-on for), its not even close enough to measure to see if its close, they’re losing that badly.

A problem I’m having with a lot of folks, including my wife, is the need to put things in binary (?) terms. If I’m not for Ukraine I must be for Russia. Hey I’m a product of the cold war (USAF ‘68-‘80) It’s really not in me to love on some russians. That does not make me love the Ukraine. Whats that saying? “Not my monkeys, not my circus”. Europe should be dealing with Europes business. It isnt in our national interest to fight Russia, what will we, the US, gain- nothing. We really need to learn to only do things that further our national interests.

    Divemedic · March 2, 2025 at 10:01 am

Binary terms isn’t just in this case. For example, I say that we don’t need the Department of Education, and then immediately hear “Oh, so we don’t need schools?” That isn’t what I said. If say California wants publicly funded schools, they are free to have them. If Montana doesn’t think it’s a good use of funds, they are free to not do it that way.
Same with abortion- very few issues are wholly binary.

I don’t think we can trust Russia but we absolutely have to maintain a dialog with them. Fortunately Putin is smart and rational.

There is an eye-opening documentary on Ukraine called “Ukraine on Fire”. It predates the current conflict but is instructive re Crimea. Also, it looks like Ukraine’s internal problems are longstanding.

The current war is primarily over NATO presence. Allowing NATO missiles in Ukraine would be like allowing Chinese missiles in Toronto. Look at a map of NATO countries. Were I in Putin’s shoes I would have attacked if NATO membership looked like a deal in the works.

So F Z and F the EU. The Ukraine is not getting their territory back and I don’t think any Americans should die there. Likewise for our tax dollars.

To paraphrase Reagan and Zuul, ‘There is no trust, only verify.’
But even if trust was a thing in diplomacy, I’d NEVER trust the Brits, who’re still trying to recapture world financial dominance by any means possible and, like hyenas do, coming in and picking over the remains of the former ‘bigs’.
Oh, I dunno, like maybe waiting ‘til your ‘ally’ has a ship in the area, then sneaking in underneath and blowing up a pipeline.
We’re all lucky the world didn’t explode after the pipeline did.

As a Canadian I don’t believe the US owes Ukraine anything, they mismanaged the resources given to them. A continuous war just weakens the US, which is what her enemies both foreign and domestic want.

WDS · March 2, 2025 at 10:37 am

“With that being said, the reality is that Ukraine can’t win against Russia without outside help.”

Sadly though, wars are no longer meant to be “won”, they’re meant to be perpetuated.

People need to look at a map.

Most of those mineral resources are currently under Russian occupied territory. There are – by current estimates, between 750,000 and 850,000 entrenched Russian troops with heavily defended supply lines. To push them out will take a military investment to rival D-Day. And assuming such a force could be amassed, transported to the theatre and readied to fight – the death toll will make Iwo Jima and Okinawa look like penny ante. Additionally the US military is in a state of chaos. It’s infested with troons, queers, women, DEI flunkies and other dregs of the neo-liberal and neocon varieties. All that will take years to clear away. By now it should be clear that the Russians are NOT going to run out of ammunition, they are NOT drunken thugs with nukes running a gas station, and they are NOT poorly motivated, demoralized peasants that will surrender with a dirty look. They are patriots with an existential threat right on their doorstep. So far they have killed approximately one million Ukes. They will kill one million Yanks if you try them – and you may still lose. It isn’t the 1990s anymore. The world is changing.

It is an understatement to say Zelensky doesn’t have the cards… he doesn’t have ANY cards. There won’t be any deal with Zelensky because there is no deal to be had. Under Obama and Biden, America played stupid games with stupid people and have the stupid prizes to show for it. It is not far from the truth to say that America was formerly run by a gangster gov’ts and Trump is now cleaning house.

The problem is that America’s “allies” are still being run by gangsters and grifters and money launderers. Up here in Canada, Justin Turdo just handed over 5 billion dollars and most of our heavy armour to the Ukes. Like the others, he doesn’t know how to deal with an America that is run by an Administration that actually gives a shit about its people and future. He is going to find out shortly, and in due course he and his shills will be swept away the same way they are being kicked to the curb in America. In time the same will happen to Europe.

It is a truism that people get the govts they want and deserve… and it’s good to see that at least America has theirs. I only hope God speeds the rest of us along soon.

    Divemedic · March 2, 2025 at 11:18 am

I applaud Trump’s efforts, but the rot is too deep and his time in office too short for him to win this fight. The crooks will use the courts to run out the clock, and we will be back to business as usual in 2029.

Modern Day Jeremiah · March 3, 2025 at 5:27 am

They are certainly trying to use the courts to delay, obfuscate, and “run out the clock.” Why not? Lawfare has worked splendidly for them in the past. I think that this is why Trump selected Vance as VP and presumptive GOP nominee in 2028. If Vance can continue the work for 8 more years, there MIGHT be a chance to effectively drain the swamp. Much depends on what Trump achieves in the first two years. If he has effective majorities in Congress for his entire term, there’s a chance of success.

I’m not going to apologize for my countrymen – I’m not the reason for their stupidity (at least I don’t think I am). But it is true that these days approx. 60-70% of Polish people are complete morons (this percentage represents the pro-war faction).

The truth is that this war is not in the interest of Europe in general, and Poland in particular. I mean it’s clear that almost all wars are morally wrong, but some wars are wrong in every other aspect as well. And I think that this war in particular does not make sense from any nation’s perspective. Not just American. But also Polish, Hungarian, Slovak or Romanian. And especially Ukrainian. The only ones who profit are the corrupt individuals: Ukrainian leadership, Bidens, Pelosis, Kerrys, and whomever else got kickbacks for deals with Burisma and many other such entities.

It’s clear this war needs to end, it’s clear Ruskies are significantly weakened, it is clear they do not intend to conquer Europe. So I’m glad that, in addition to Orban, now Trump and Vance say it out loud.
