You get the government that you vote for, and Oregon residents can’t understand how they keep seeing their taxes raised. They were only supposed to tax the rich, you see…
Oregon Democrats passed a New Water Law – HB 2982
Starting Jan 1, 2026, a Kayak, paddle board, and even your inner tube counts as a BOAT in Oregon. If you do not have a permit you will face a $115 fine
Reason #235 why I am leaving the state again. I left in 2000 and returned in 2023. Items such as this, a 5 cent surcharge on grocery store paper or plastic bags, that the state gets and vehicle registration doubling in Jan of next year. I still have South Dakota tags and license and that is where I am going back.

The latest is that the state is walking back the two inner tubes tied together ruling, but my 9’11” kayak still needs a permit. We have had marine invasive species permits for power boats and larger boats but this is a new cash grab. Unfortunately the Portland to Eugene axis dominates the legislature and hates the rest of Oregon

While I think it’s total BS, there are other ways of looking at it. For example, within 10 minutes of my driveway are two different boat ramps to the local bay. One is “public” and free, the other charges $5 to use and another $5 to park. Needless to say, the one that charges money has far fewer idiots, a shorter line, safer parking, less crime, so on and so forth. The $10 I gladly pay isn’t to use the ramp, it’s to exclude certain members of the public that like to ruin it for everybody.
So in highly populated areas you can have unrestricted water use and every meth head, cracker, darkie, drunk, and skank clogging up the river and taking a “G” family outing and turning it into a “R” or “X” family nightmare. Since you can’t exclude certain peoples without riots, you instead tax them to help cut down on the problems.
Not that I trust the govt to do anything right, but maybe that was the overall goal here.

I’m also considering pulling the plug on oregun. Came back last year after three years in Arizona, and was aghast. Visiting North Carolina grandkids now, and they’re begging me to move over. I was born here, raised in the Deep South, and love it. Had real Carolina BBQ for breakfast today, and it actually brought tears to my eyes.
