This is a prime example of how we need to cut our losses with education. There should be an entrance exam for high school. If you can’t read or do simple arithmetic, you should get turned out at the end of the 9th grade.
We are spending millions of dollars to run a school for idiots who can’t read and largely don’t even bother to show up.

They used to have shop class and other useful trades you could learn for almost no charge and apprenticeship programs.
All of that ended as I was graduating in early 90s and the beginning of Heather has two mommies, participation trophy, safe space.

Unfortunately the government thinks that it needs ~35% of what I made in order to give it to losers like this who don’t work….so I need to work until 3 PM every day to keep these morons fed, clothed, “educated”, housed and probably dealing drugs…which the IRS won’t get them for unless they reach Al Capone status.
The “Land of the Free” hasn’t been free for a long time now.

I have said for a long time now that school needs to be reserved for those who can and will succeed, and for those we should pull out the stops all the way to a PhD. The rest need to be introduced into some sort of trade program where they can learn to be productive and make an honest living. For the rest of them, the behavior problems, etc. remove them from the system and give them a shovel. Of course, this goes hand in hand with the concept of there being no welfare handouts. Turn to crime, and you can be dealt with, i,e. terminated as well

When I was incarcerated in the public school system, somewhere around the 8th grade I came to the conclusion that the system wasn’t actually designed to “educate” anyone. It was just a state-supported daycare system. And that was back before two-working-parent households were the norm.
Someone once said “public school is punishment for a crime you didn’t commit.” I tip my hat to them, whoever it was. I certainly felt that way.

There was a time when brooms and shovels were issued so at least some amount of semi-productive work could be accomplished.
Today that would require 12 hours of training, accompanied by a Ikea-style pictogram, on which end of the brooms and shovels were the working end.
