Hawaii has strict laws against the private ownership or possession of fireworks. This law was passed after some morons caused a fireworks explosion in 2023 that resulted in the death of six people, one of them a 3-year-old. The result is that the penalty for possession of fireworks is now punishable by 5 years in jail. It’s an island, so it should be pretty easy to stop private fireworks, right?

So I guess that means there were no fireworks in Hawaii on New Years’ Eve…

Now I want you to think about the fact that Hawaii has also made firearms illegal, with the same penalties for ignoring the law…

How do you think that’s going?

I get it, tragedies happen, but that is because some people are irresponsible and stupid. That is THEIR fault, and it can’t be fixed by banning objects.

Correct.
Ban something, someone will make their own, maybe even more dangerous.

Amen Ghostsniper…. Kinda like banning nuclear weapons or biological weapons. It’s only a matter of time… and that’s downright disturbing.

I remember when they banned straws in H.S. because kids were using them to fire spitballs at each other in class. So we started making “Horse Bullets” and firing those around with rubber bands…..

Well, Hawaii is an island, or, rather, several islands, into which just about everything they have – some stuff can be ‘native grown’ or manufactured from local materials – must come into the state via airplane or boat. And, since the state government, often in coordination with the fed dot gov people, regulate and control the airports, harbors and docks, either: A) your report is totally incorrect and a complete fabrication, B) there is a huge illegal fireworks smuggling industry in Hawaii operating way, way under the government’s radar; C) there is an equally huge illegal fireworks manufacturing industry using locally created materials operating way, way under the government’s radar, or D) Hawaiian – and federal – government in Hawaii is stunningly incompetent in regulating and controlling illegal importation of fireworks into Hawaii.

If it’s D), I wonder what they might also be just as stunningly incompetent at controlling in Hawaii……
