A therapist in Orlando was stabbed to death by one of her patients. The other therapists in the area are all freaking out.

What ever happened to the whole “police need to deescalate” or the “just give them what they want” theory? Is it possible that some people are so crazy or so evil that the only thing stopping them is the use of force?

One of the therapists talks about putting cameras in her office (at 1:11), but worries that it will breach confidentiality. I have a couple of thoughts on that:

  1. If you are in possession of the camera and the recording, just how does that breach confidentiality?
  2. You are talking about potentially filming someone as they murder you. Is confidentiality really your top concern?
  3. Cameras only work as a deterrent if the person being filmed is concerned with consequences and is mentally stable enough to consider the possibility that they will be caught. How does that deter someone who is mentally unstable?

The same woman goes on to ask if she should have “mace” on her person, which I assume means pepper spray, but whatever. Honey, that woman was STABBED to death. Are you going to trust that a table condiment will stop a person armed with a deadly weapon who is intent on killing you? What if it doesn’t work? What is plan b? You going to talk to him and ‘deescalate’ them?

You would think that a mental health therapist would be smarter than this. If someone is trying to kill me, I would rather put a few freedom seeds into his chest cavity. It’s a lot harder to stab me to death when you are trying to remain conscious after receiving a sucking chest wound and a huge hole in your aorta.

Oh, you don’t think you can kill someone? Then perhaps dealing with homicidal mental patients without either a weapon or a security guard isn’t where you should be working, because they can sure kill you, as evidenced by your deceased colleague.

This is why women don’t deal with violent psychos very well. Their nurturing side and soft approach is seen as weakness by the truly violent.

Wimmens….
A revolver under the seat cushion was a no? Gun in your desk-drawer? No.
How ’bout a lexan wall between you and your patient? Better yet, why aren’t you tele-healthing the crazies in your practice?

There is this thing called the 2nd Amendment.
Because life is not some teevee sitcom.

“Are you going to trust that a table condiment will stop a person”

I love the tortured thinking that so many people have. There was the time when there was much advocacy for a can of hornet spray next to the bed as well.

Years ago a family member was confident that placing her used paper range targets on the door from the garage to the house was a genuine deterrent to anyone engaging in a B&E action. It reminds me of a Robin Williams sketch where he made fun of the unarmed British police. “Stop. Or I’ll yell stop again.”

It was either Jeff Cooper or Massad Ayoob that stated every man should be capable of unleashing overwhelming and decisive violence at a moments notice. That is the most valid deterrent.

Are these the people the liberals wanted to replace calling cops with for the violent mentally ill on the street? Softer kinder approach thing? Sure.

‘Records obtained by FOX 35 showed that Smith was a registered sex offender who was released from prison in 2022. His parole required that he have “psychological or psychiatric evaluation geared towards someone who has committed a violent and vicious sexual battery and who has a violent anti-social personality disorder.”‘

What the hell are we doing as a society? Anyone who has “committed a violent and vicious sexual battery and who has a violent anti-social personality disorder” belongs in prison, not in an office at night with a 44yo woman.

Listen to them cackle, wring-hands, and bemoan……. Your Honor, Exhibit A……

I’ve read liberalism described as ‘a mental disease or disorder’ and as ‘their religion, their belief structure’. This woman chose to be a sacrifice to her religion rather than being a living non-believer.

This is of piece with th classic gun control image of believing a woman strangled by a rapist is,morally superior to a woman shooting a rapist.
Back to the main point, I’m glad my wife only does telehealth and never does criminals. But she stopped being a liberal years ago.

ghostsniper · February 3, 2026 at 4:00 pm

Ya know, I agree with everything you wrote there.
But, if you said such a thing to a woman her reply will be, “Don’t take that tone with me.”

See, they don’t think like us and never will. It’s just not possible. Women are sort of a different species from men.

Lemme tell you something. Even after almost 42 years of marriage I still have difficulty communicating with my wife at time.

The more important the subject, the more difficult the communication. Very frustrating, and can not be fixed.

No more so than making a great white shark understand a seal has feelings too.
It ain’t gonna happen.

The idiocy will continue until every AWFUL is either murdered, beaten, or dry humped whil walking their dog by an illegal alien or other class of felon they so ardently support.

TCK · February 3, 2026 at 5:27 pm

I really don’t want to victim blame, but any woman who willingly locks herself alone in a room with a man she KNOWS is a violent rapist has gone beyond tempting fate and is now flipping Darwin off with both hands while daring him to do his worst.

Recently, in a small town in Illinois – a woman was opening the business for the day and a black guy walks in with a gat demands cash – she cooperates and gives him all the cash and he shoots her dead.
(My wife’s nephew is a watch commander for the sheriff’s office in the county.)

So to me the lesson learned is arm yourself and know how to use your weapon and have the will to kill to save your own hide. Yeah it sucks but do we have any choice? Savages would learn real quick that there is no more white bread.

There’s a fair amount of confirmation bias in these situations. I did not get beaten up or killed yet in my practice so this must mean it always is the case and there’s no one that would be violent with me! This is the reason that the reported de-esclation’ is a farce. Yeah sure give it a bit of a try when you have space and cover but you remove those barriers and eventually your gonna get got. Additionally what will you do when you get a case like this where trying to deescalate fails? Sure there can be some people that respond to it – eventually. But someone that’s of a violent mindset already probally has enough screws loose that they won’t or are not capable of deescalation before they have inflicted great harm or worse.

Jonathan · February 4, 2026 at 3:34 am

To me, the root problem is that many people, quite a few of them women, believe the world is as they want it to be.
They are incapable of viewing the world as it actually is.
This is unfortunately a perfect example. The dead women not only believed that everyone was fixable, but also that she was the one to fix them.
For some people, violence is a way of life and talking won’t change them.

I’m with those who say that someone like him should ar least be in prison – if not 6 feet under for his crimes. Historically, men like this are why we have the death penalty. More or less completely eliminating it has made life worse, not better (it’s another example of wishful thinking, but I’ve already written too much).

“The therapist should be armed and skilled with that particular arm; the therapist should be more aware of exactly who they are treating, and their proven tendencies; therapist’s office should have better security; therapist’s offices need cameras; therapists should conduct their sessions from behind security barriers”.

And so on and so on.

Now, what about the poor schmuck sitting in the waiting room reading 6-month-old magazines whom the perp will consider a witness? Had our choir boy offed the next patient instead of himself how would that next-of-kin lawsuit go?

My observations indicate that two or three 230 grain hollow points at 900 FPS (or a few 180 grainers at 1250) can de-escalate things just fine. Which assumes one knows how to administer such a de-escalation technique and is mentally, and physically, prepared and equipped to do so. And doesn’t sit with their back to the door.

Or, since the son of a bitch has demonstrated a propensity for violence, and been adjudicated and incarcerated for same, keep his f**king ass in jail, not out in public where he poses a threat to everyone. Last I heard, prophylactic de-escalation with hollow points is not a governmentally-approved therapy, but to paraphase Eastwood’s William Munny character “he needed killin;” postponing it to after the fact does not make it less necessary.

    Grumpy 51 · February 4, 2026 at 11:19 am

Which is why “no gun” signs are of no-use.

I, and I alone, am responsible for my personal safety…… regardless of your signage.

“You would think that a mental health therapist would be smarter than this.”

They’re the medical (and I use that term loosely in this instance) version of journalism students. In my admittedly limited experience, and in well-established studies, most mental health “professionals” enter the field to find out why they themselves are so crazy.
