There is a time for large bore
a time for small
A time for glass, a time for iron
A time for thermal,
a time for light amplification
A time for long, a time for short
Time for a projectile, a time for an edge

A good toolbox has many tools

Just like De Niro stated in Ronin. Thank you.

I’m guessing he’s the same type of guy who would say you shouldn’t use hollow points because that will be used to show intent that you wanted to kill someone, not just wound them. Also, shoot them in the leg. Nor does he proof his posts. “They hang up, are bulky and slow you down.” Not “The hang up…” SMH…

Being gun amish I only had a red dot on my AR’s. I decided to put one on my steel plate gun and shoot matches for a year before putting one on my carry pistol.

There is a fairly long learning curve on a pistol versus a long gun. I ended up chasing the dot for a long time. It did help quite a bit on longer range targets over iron sights as far as accuracy but was no faster at targets under 10 yards. So IMHO it wouldn’t bring much value to me on my Glock 19. We shoot a number of qualifying rounds for shits and giggles. I had never shot the FBI qualifier clean until I used a red dot on a Glock 17. You have all the time in the world to complete the 25 yard segments so the red dot shines at that range.

Our local PD and Sheriff department both use red dots on their pistols these days so I can not see how having one on your personal weapon would hurt you in a legit defensive shooting.

While I personally have had nothing but grief with the optics on my girsan 1911, I would endorse using anything that improves your ability to protect you and yours. Side note, I’ve had different red dots on my 1911, the way I present and hold the gun is the problem, not the optics.

Normally I’d make a smartass comment about not using antiques, but this time I’m actually quite serious. Try a modern striker fired weapon, the Glock series have a different grip angle from the Brownings. The M&Ps have the same angle as a Browning, but with the adjustable palm swell, that would make a difference too.

Just because it’s Fudd Logic doesn’t mean you won’t see it used in court.
