The case bears similarity to that of former nurse Niels Högel, who was handed a life sentence in 2019 after he was convicted of murdering 85 patients at two hospitals in northern Germany. He is believed to be the most prolific killer in Germany’s modern history.
I can think of a few in Germany who killed more.

I guess if you divide the killers into civilian actors and state-level bastards the description works. And Germany’s bad guys pale in comparison to historical figures in China and Russia.

It’s apples to oranges, but Germany had squadrons with multiple Luftwaffe pilots with nearly 200 kills apiece.
85 was one trip to the showers at any one of half a dozen konzentrationslagers from 1943-1945, and they were running around the clock for years.
And they only scored Germany the bronze medal in killing people for those efforts.
Stalin and Mao posted numbers so high they make Germany look like a Special Olympics contestant by contrast.
