DM, I think if we crowdsourced it, we’d find hundreds if not thousands of similar stories. True story from my personal life: 35 years ago, last day of grade school in PG County Maryland…
I was the nerd with guts in my school: I took my lumps but doggedly refused to give up. I was picked near-last in sports, but I was damned fierce. The two top athletes in our grade were a white dude named Aaron and a black dude named Derrick.
We had field day in the park behind the school, which had a running track. We had a bunch of games of stuff like kickball and whatnot, and then at the end we had a one-mile foot race. Aaron and Derrick sprinted out of the gate while I conserved my energy and just kept going. I passed them both well within the first quarter mile as they got winded, and lapped them soon after.
When I lapped Derrick _the second time_, he tried to fucking jump-kick me like he was a fucking ninja or something, which I easily dodged and kept going, laughing at him and calling him a sore loser. I finished first of everyone in the grade, though my time wasn’t impressive by any standard.
Derrick was pissed and tried to start something afterward. The coach stopped him and pointed out for the class how his strategy failed and mine dominated, then pointed at me and told the class that the reason I won was because I ‘had brains and heart’.
Derrick glared _daggers_ at me after that; fortunately I never had to see him ever again. His ego simply could not process that the skinny little white boy nerd had fucking destroyed and humiliated him in an athletic competition. Still brings a smile to my face thinking about it…

YEAH. it is why I moved the hell away from Philly. you never let your guard down around them.
but when one of us has to “stand guard” as we unload the car? it way past time to get out of there. only stayed there until my parents passed on. once that was settled, I left that shithole.
funny part was getting a letter (?) from some clowns in city asking why did I leave their “great city” ? they even gave me a 10 dollar gift card to fill out the reason why .
I guess they are kind of worried about their tax base leaving there ?
I told them I was the wrong color to live there. get a nice car, they keyed it first chance they get. anything they can steal, it’s gone ! so no, this does not shock me. it is their MO.
the sucker punch. they only fight if they out number you. grew up around them in the 1960’s
so, yeah. this is “their normal” way of acting.
