An off duty Atlanta cop attempted to break into a residence before being shot and killed by the homeowner. Shockingly, his fellow officers didn’t show up and SWAT the homeowner.

Possibly he wasn’t liked by his coworkers?

Howboutthatschitt!??! And all this time I’ve been wrongly believing cops have some special DNA and they are 100% through and through Dudley DoRight types who can shoot like Annie Oakley.

I found the last sentence of the story amusing:

“Investigators don’t yet know why Horton broke into the home.”

Absent a manifesto, a seance, or a Ouija board, they might have some trouble with finding a motive. “Neighbors” a “few streets away” are unlikely to have ongoing feuds.

My thoughts are either he does recreational burglary or he was wacked out of his skull on a recreational drug like Amber Guyger, only this time the target shot back. Either is plausible, cops doing crime was the whole premise of The Shield and cops getting drunk or high and doing stupid things is endemic

In 1975, the entire police department of Connellsville, Pennsylvania was arrested for being a part of a local burglary ring. Look it up.
