The United States of America is not a democracy. It’s a republic. The difference may be too subtle for the point-and-screech types.
Interestingly, I spent most of 12 years incarcerated in various public school systems without ever seeing the word “republic”, not even in civics or history classes. For eight or nine years we were required to stand and chant the Plejaleejah in the mornings, and the word “republic” is in there, but I never knew. All I heard was something like “behbubig.” (apparently all the other first-graders already knew the words before they started school, and the teacher refused to answer my questions since she was certain I knew the words and was being a pain in the ass. So I faked it across half a dozen school systems until junior high when it wasn’t required any more)
