In my previous hometown in NY, they’ve been doing that for awhile. I am unsure if it is important for the cop’s ledgers, but the article implied some importance that the car (painted white with barely visible “POLICE” in reflective white paint) was not an undercover vehicle.
If the police are there to help, why are they hiding except to enhance revenue?
