Anyone who clings to the historically untrue—and thoroughly immoral—doctrine that ‘violence never settles anything’ I would advise to conjure up the ghosts of Napoleon Bonaparte and of the Duke of Wellington and let them debate it. Once you threaten me with violence, I will take you at your word. If the police aren’t willing to do something to protect me and my family by taking you into custody, then I must do it myself.
That’s why we have police- to ensure those who are accused of a crime receive a fair trial, rather than a beatdown from their alleged victims.
