Three times I voted for Trump. He was and remains a better choice than any of the three who ran against him. That being said, the Iran war clearly shows him to be stepping on his dick.
Iran is clearly prolonging the conflict until November, because their aim is obviously to influence the election. It wouldn’t surprise me to find out the Democrats are conspiring with Iran to make that happen.
Still,this is a disaster in the making for the Republicans. Fuel prices are sky high. Gasoline is averaging more than $4.30 a gallon. Inflation is high, and the Fed is expected to raise interest rates by a quarter percent today.
The nation, and perhaps the world, is about to enter a recession. Americans vote with their wallets. Republican lawmakers, sensing vulnerability to anti-Trump election pressures, are beginning to turn on him.
All of this signals a return to Democrat control of Congress. Trump is about to become a powerless lame duck.
That also means a likely stranglehold of both Congress and the Whitehouse. Imagine President AOC, but backed by Control of both the Senate and the House.

If the Dems take either or both the house and Senate in November, it will be impeachment theater until the next election.
A president AOC would be one of the lowest points in our nation’s history. Can you imagine her sitting across from Putin? There will be no respect anywhere. Her entire presidency would be puppet strings held by Schumer and Hakeem Jeffries.

I think it’s incorrect to say that Trump made the wrong decision. I think he made the best possible decision based on his options. His problem is that the previous Administrations in the US left him with a Sophie’s choice — no matter what he chose to do, it would be wrong.
If one starts with the axiom that the big issue here is Iran and nukes, then Trump had three, and only three options:
1) Do nothing, or make ineffectual gestures, like the previous Administrations and accept that Iran will have nukes, with all that entails.
2) Start a ground war.
3) Start a seige war.
Those, as far as I can see, are the only three things he could do. I think he was right to believe that an Iran with nukes would be an absolute disaster, and it’s clear they were both on the cusp of having them *and* had developed long range delivery technology.
A ground war was untenable, particularly after Biden’s debacle in Afghanistan. American popular opinion would not support it in the absence of some sort of equivalent of 9/11 or Pearl Harbor, and of course the Democrats are actively pro-Iran and anti-American. It would be a disaster at home.
Siege warfare works, and for the US, the cost is relatively low, at least at the beginning. Siege warfare has been around, of course, for a zillion years, and it follows a pretty limited number of paths. You isolate your enemy and then wait and see who runs out of resources first.
Then, one of three things happen. The siege can be lifted because the target gets relief from another ally (e.g. the Poles and Germans and rest of the Holy League relieving Vienna in 1683). The target runs out of resources or the defenses collapse, and the attackers walk ind(e.g. Siege of Vicksburg, 1863). The attacker runs out of resources and lifts the siege (e.g. the siege of Hatra in by Rome in 197). There are more complex patterns, but those are the basic three.
Trump didn’t have to worry about a relief force. The US has plenty of resources for this, in spite of the Democrat propaganda. Of the three options, the siege option was the best. If Trump were lucky, the siege would be shortened by having a popular uprising in Iran, or actions by the Kurds. If, not, the primary threat to the US and success was not Iran, but Democrats who are, for all practical purposes, Iranian allies.
If given time, the siege will work eventually. It’s not a great solution, but of the options available, it was the best. Even in the worst scenario, Trump has been largely successful in the primary goal of stopping nuke development if not permanently, then at least for the next couple of decades.
The Democrat allies of Iran may not allow Trump to continue on to victory, but that’s not because Trump was stupid in what he did or made the “wrong” choice. He made the best of multiple bad choices.
