I am sick of hearing people talk about how this person or that one is spreading misinformation, and how people who do should be silenced, deplatformed, or even jailed, when this is the timeline of COVID vaccines, as told by the MSM:
November of 2020: Moderna said Monday that early analysis from its Phase 3 trial shows its Covid-19 vaccine is 94.5 percent effective at preventing the illness, offering hope of a second breakthrough in as many weeks. The news comes a week after pharmaceutical giant Pfizer said early analysis showed its vaccine candidate was more than 90 percent effective. NBC NEWS (emphasis added by me, in red)
March 4, 2021: Both the Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna vaccines were primarily evaluated for their ability to prevent symptomatic COVID-19, with the former having a 95% efficacy and the latter having a 94% efficacy in the clinical trial data submitted for the original authorization by the Food and Drug Administration. This means your risk of getting sick is cut by 94% or more if you are vaccinated. The final phase 3 data showed an efficacy of 91% for Pfizer/BioNTech and 93% for Moderna. Note that the goalposts continue to move. At first, it was two doses were 94% effective in preventing the illness, then it was preventing symptoms, then it morphed into preventing hospitalization in people over 65, then it became three doses preventing death or a ventilator.
So who exactly is spreading misinformation? My guess is, everyone. Simply because some people are lying, some don’t know anything, and no one really knows the truth. Well, someone does, but they aren’t telling anyone.

The other thing that’s clogging my BS filter is that not only have the goal posts moved, the percentage effectiveness doesn’t. It’s always in that narrow little 94-95% range. No other numbers. I’d expect a wider range.
Based on lots (and lots) of experiments in electronics (admittedly a different field), distributions aren’t like that, and biological systems are notoriously wider distributions than physics-based systems.

Obvious lying sacks of shit are obvious. To draw a parallel to another medical industry screw up, read up about the Therac-25 radiotherapy disaster. This was a case of a poorly designed and implemented piece of medical equipment that injured and/or killed multiple cancer patients by applying a massive overdose of ionized radiation.
The manufacturer, AECL (a Canadian govt run outfit at the time) when first put on the spot about the apparent malfunction immediately denied any possibility of such an occurrence. Then, after having to admit their machine fucked up, made a mod (that didn’t work to stop the malfunction from recurring several more times between 1985-87) then claimed that it’s safety had been improved by some 5 million times. Point being that there is a long history of this bullshitery in the medical industry.
No, it isn’t exclusive or even unique to medicine. But the stakes are a lot higher for a greater number of people when such a screw up occurs in medical treatment, than it is in many other industries. And note I’m not excusing any other industries screwups here. But medical devices and pharmaceuticals have to be held to a higher standard due to the risks involved, yet in reality they just aren’t.
The bigger problem with the covid shitshots is that they are far less a medical issue than they are a political one. They represent the politicization of medical care writ large. There is only one solution to dysfunctional politics on the scale they now exist in the US. The proper application of that solution is the variable presently lacking.
