Elon Musk suggests that Taiwan should be placed under special administrative control of China, just like Hong Kong. Musk claims that this will “leave many people unhappy.” Jut how unhappy remains to be seen, but if Hong Kong history is any guide, any dissidents won’t be around to complain about it. Anyone who opposes the official government line gets his ass chucked in prison.
Let’s get a Hong Kong resident’s opinion on this idea:
I know it’s funny, but there is a pretty good chance that the man who said that is dead. He was alive in April of 2020, but who knows what happened to him at this point.

I’m a big fan of Elon, and I know he knows his history. (Listen to him on Hardcore History podcast Ep17 from Dec last year.)
I think He/Tesla sold their souls when they put that plant in China. NEVER go into business with a commie.
The two biggest risks to Tesla shareholders (which I am one) are WWIII, or China shutting down/nationalizing the Tesla plant in Shanghai. And he seems intent on aggravating both of these.

I’m a big fan of elon’s trolling and shit posting. Not so much a fan of him. The guy makes some valid points, but is an opportunistic tax farmer and proponent of transhumanist tripe. Moreover, being an eccentric billionaire, he cannot be trusted not to go off the rez with some crazy shit when something new and stupid strikes his fancy. And yeah, his lash up with the CCP is a bad omen, too.
As far as dissidents in HK and Taiwan are concerned, they had to know the risks they were taking and the feathers they are ruffling by publicly agitating against the mainland govt. I don’t wish to seem them destroyed, but that is their destiny based upon known facts. So, they are either stupid to protest knowing the likely outcome, or they have brass balls, for the same reason.

Elon is correct in that there is only one possible outcome to the Taiwan situation in any military conflict. China *IS* going to invade and win. The only thing stopping them to this point is the US, who is both their most valuable trading partner and the strongest military power in the world.
Since China is working hard to make both of those points moot, the US needs to plan for the eventuality that Taiwan is not going to be there, and US companies need to stop putting all of their eggs in that basket. However, US company executives can’t see past the next quarterly earnings report, so that won’t happen.

I’m afraid that Mr. “China Is Asshoe” shares the fate of Tank Man from Tiannamen Square. Families probably charged for the cost of the bullets.

Likely true. And not that it is any consolation to him or his family, but he did achieve worldwide meme status in perpetuity just as tank man did before him. I still occasionally use the utterance “China is asshoe” sprinkled into conversation where fitting. Usually gets a laugh too, as most people seem to know about the OG video clip. Now that is internet famous, right there.
