A pregnant 15 year old girl from Florida can be driven to Missouri and forced to marry the 30 year old father of her child and he can take his child bride back to Florida, and the marriage totally legal. If she leaves him before 18 because he is abusing her, she is not eligible to enter an abused woman’s shelter. If he stalks her, she can’t even buy a gun to defend herself for three years, because of Florida’s recent gun law denying guns to adults under 21.

The students in Florida have announced a walkout to demonstrate for gun control on April 20th. I don’t believe for a second that most students are walking out on 4/20 for gun rights. This is clever on the part of gun grabbers, because when all of the stoners leave for the day to go get high, the anti gunners will cheer at how socially aware these children are.

Anyway, as a part of this, our Principal has told the teachers to sit down and have a conversation with their students about the issues at hand so that the students feel like their concerns are being heard. So, sit down with them I did. We had a discussion about all of the issues surrounding campus security. After about a 10 minute discussion, they were assigned to write a paper informing the reader of three to five things that we could change about school that would make them feel safer.

There were 118 papers turned in to me. Of those:

92 of them said that arming teachers to defend themselves would make them feel safer. Some suggested that the teacher actually carry, and about a third suggested that the teacher’s weapon be kept in a biometric safe that would open only to an authorized teacher’s fingerprint. Opening the safe would set off an alarm in the office. Some suggested that it only be teachers who were veterans, or retired police.

Ten said we should have more SRO’s. One of those ten admitted it would be expensive and potentially cost millions, but further stated that price should be no object when it comes to safety. He also suggested raising taxes to cover it.

There were another six who were opposed to arming teachers, with two saying that teachers might become angry with students and shoot them for acting out in class or not doing their homework. Interestingly, both of these students were black, and in two different class periods.

98 of them felt that the schools should be fenced with access control. 15 of them were opposed to fences, saying that they did not want their schools to look like a prison. Three of them wanted to surround the schools with electric fences.

Two students felt that students with firearms experience should be permitted to be armed.

What does all of this mean? Teens are not as unified in demanding gun control as the press and politicians would have you believe.

Florida’s new law creastes 790.401, a statute that allows police to take your right to own a firearm away through an ex parte order from a judge. The first hint that you have been targeted like this, is when the cops show up to take your guns.

If this law is signed, I will have to stop entering non-permissive places with my weapon and blogging about it. I will likely stop blogging and commenting online altogether. Make no mistake, this law will be used to silence political opposition. I believe this law is designed to eliminate pro gun voices.

One part of the soon to be law banning bump stocks reads thusly:

As used in this section, the term “bump fire stock” means a conversion kit, a tool, an accessory, or a device used to alter the rate of fire of a firearm to mimic automatic weapon fire or which is used to increase the rate of fire to a faster rate than is possible for a person to fire such semiautomatic firearm unassisted by a kit, a tool, an accessory, or a device.

Because 8 rounds in one second is a cyclic rate of 480 rounds per minute.

I got a text from my wife: Her school was in lockdown, and she  was hiding under her desk in her classroom. I asked if she had heard gunshots, and she said no. I was afraid for her, and it was that fear that made me understand why families of these shooting victims can have this visceral reaction to demand gun bans. It is an emotional response that is born from the fear for a loved one’s safety and the instinct that demands you do something. You feel powerless. With that being said, the rational brain says that banning guns will not work.

In my wife’s case, it turned out that someone had called 911 because they thought they saw someone entering campus with a gun, but the person was found and had no weapons on him. In other words, part of the hysteria that surrounds the recent shooting in South Florida.

As a teacher who has been a victim of student violence, I can tell you that there are a few things that need to be done:

1 Currently, when a student attacks someone, the incident is swept under the rug. If it is a teacher who was attacked, the teacher is blamed. I have seen this happened to at least 4 different teachers. The violent student gets a pass, and the problems escalate, sometimes ending in someone being seriously hurt or killed. The worst that is done is that the student is assigned to an “at risk” high school for the rest of the school year, then returns the following fall. I have students in my class who have been caught dealing drugs (more than once), carrying weapons on campus, rape, armed robbery, and other serious crimes. How about we do something about that?

2 How about putting a fence around campus and controlling access? Our school board already shot that one down as being too expensive.

3 Allowing teachers to carry weapons isn’t going to happen in Florida. See #1- if a teacher is involved in a violent incident with a student, the teacher is blamed.

This is all part of a big push for gun control, not real solutions. I just hope the clock runs on the proposed bills in Florida. The Legislature is in session for only three more days.

We teachers have now been trained in protecting your children from shooters.

This is an example of the ALICE training that teachers in Florida have been receiving all week. To see the ALICE protocol in action, advance to the 29:20 mark. This training is what you do when people are screaming for you to do something, but you won’t do what is needed to actually accomplish anything.

The cost to have one of your employees certified as an ALICE instructor is $600, and takes two days.

We were told that they will not even be fencing in the schools, because a killer can easily jump a fence. They are literally doing NOTHING to protect the teachers or the children. To them, it is gun control or nothing.

I just donated $100 to the NRA. Maybe you should, too.

I have been shopping for a new truck for the past several months. After talking to about a dozen dealers and test driving 8 different trucks, I finally bought one. The one I got is my new BOV. It is an F-150 SXT in four wheel drive. It has a 36 gallon fuel tank, which gives it a range of over 600 miles. Now I have to outfit it with radio equipment and a gun safe.

I test drove trucks from Toyota and Nissan. None of them were acceptable, as they were either too small, or simply rode like crap. I finally decided to go with a full sized truck and visited a Ford dealer. I test drove two different vehicles there and made an offer on one, but we could not reach a deal.

The second Ford dealer was a lot more accommodating. I joined the Experimental Aircraft Association ($40 online) so that I could get X plan financing. On top of that, they gave me $1000 more than my trade was worth, and another $7800 in rebates. In all, the sticker price on the truck was $51,400 and I wound up negotiating a price of $40,300- not  including the $1000 extra on the trade. So total price was $39,300, or about $12,000 below MSRP. 

They played a shell game by boosting the interest rates to 8 percent, even though I have a credit score of 790. What they don’t know is that I had the money to pay cash, and will be paying it off before the first payment is due.

Now I just have to get the dealers to stop calling and emailing me.

In China, knife wielding attackers killed 33 people. Tell me again how guns are the problem.

I comment on many boards and Internet forums. I have been making many comments in support of arming teachers and opposing gun control schemes these past few days. An anti gun teacher from a nearby school district just tried to find out where I work so that they could contact my employer in an attempt to have me fired. Those who opposed to the right to keep and bear arms are opposed to all rights that do not align with their own. 

This is why I keep my personal details private. However, if my employer ever did fire me because I express my political views, being that my employer is the government, it would be a violation of my right to free speech.
