Best EDC gun?
That’s a tough one. Not because I don’t have a favorite, but because what’s the best EDC gun for one person is not the best for another. Even the best carry gun for one day isn’t necessarily the best for another day. My go to line is the M&P line, sometimes a 10mm, sometimes a Shield Plus, and other times I just drop a J frame revolver in my front pocket.
Best (non AR) rifle for fun/sport/defense?
Favorite gun, for no practical reason?
I grouped these two together because my first love continues to be my favorite to this day. I’ve owned this gun since I was 8 years old, and it’s never failed me. A Winchester Model 250. It’s a lever action. It will shoot .22 Short, .22 Long, or .22 Long Rifle interchangeably, and has an under the barrel tubular magazine that holds 21 Shorts, 17 Longs, or 15 Long Rifles. It’s as much fun to play with as a box full of puppies.

A .22, either a Browning Lever action, a Winchester / Rossi pump, or a Ruger 10-22. Beyond that, a 1911.

I have an ancient Remington 416 single shot .22 that I bought at an estate auction many years ago. So old in fact that it has no serial number. I was able to find new extractor, ejector, and firing pin springs through Gun Parts Corp to make it absolutely reliable. It is hands down the most accurate .22 I’ve ever owned and is open sights only. I don’t dare drill and tap or refinish it as I don’t want to affect accuracy or operation. The only way it is leaving my possession is when it goes to one of my nephews after I’m gone.

My Dad had that Winchester 250, but in Sears Ted Williams format.
I remember how accurate it was and how it was a perfect fit for me at that time.
I left it in my unlocked car overnite and it got stolen.
My Dad was a perfect combination of pissed and disappointed.

I had a little Marlin Glenfield .22 I got as a kid. It was a fun little semiauto plinker & I shot a load of squirrels w/it. It ended up w/my brother’s oldest kid and he’s planning to give it to his kid when he gets a bit older.
