Democrats in Michigan have proposed a bill that would replace Michigan’s existing Ethnic Intimidation Act and make it a hate crime to cause someone to “feel terrorized, frightened, or threatened.” Under the bill’s framework, “sexual orientation” and “gender identity or expression” are included as classes protected against intimidation. If passed, the hate speech legislation would make violators guilty of a felony punishable by up to five years in prison and a fine of $10,000. The law also allows victims of hate crimes to bring civil lawsuits against the offender. Successful plaintiffs can recover three times the actual damages or $25,000, whichever is greater, along with reasonable attorney fees and costs.
What is also a feature is the possibility of “Alternative penalties” under the proposed law.
An alternative sentence may include an order requiring the offender to complete a period of community service intended to enhance the offender’s understanding of the impact of the offense upon the victim and wider community. Community service ordered under this subdivision must be performed with the consent of and in support of the community targeted in the violation.
I can’t see how this isn’t a violation of the First Amendment. Let’s see how it plays out.

I live in Michigan and I’ve informed my wife that we’ll be moving if this passes tests in the courts. There is no way I can go about my life without breaking this so called law

Oh this is 100% a violation of the 1A. But because Dems control all three branches of government in the state, and the state AG is a complete loon, we have to endure shit like this until the state oversteps on a charge and someone sues to get get it overturned.

It should be interesting to see how they deal with Muslims who are against the grooming effort and the alphabet crowd in general. They used to be the protected class with such a high population density. Trannies are on top now.

Of course it’s a violation of the first amendment….but so what! We stopped having the protections laid out in that document years ago! Isn’t a DUI Checkpoint a violation of the 4th (search and seizure), confiscation of assets for being arrested and charged (even if later found not guilty). Of course, the 2nd is violated all the time so there is no need to expand on it. How about the 6th for the J6 detainees? The worst violation of all is the 10th with the Fed usurping all the power not granted to them!

So as a straight white guy if I am at the MI equivalent of 18’th / Castro in San Francisco on a Friday night can I sue any aggressive gay guys who make it very clear I am in “their space”?
For this type of BS the perfect legal defense is the mental health history of those who feel “threatened”. 100% guaranteed they all have a history of mental illness / personality disorders. Usually broad spectrum. And treatment / therapy / medication. For trannies and “gay rights activists” its 100% guaranteed they have a long term history of mentally illness and in the case of trannies a very high rate of institutionalization. Over 50%.
These people are not just nutty but actually seriously mentally ill. An observation based on many decades of direct observation of a very large sample. Which is what makes them so dangerous. If you treat their deranged politics as anything other than just another symptom of their mental illness. These are not sane well adjusted reasonable people.
