I’m sure many of you bought your first albums from Columbia House. I remember the deal- it was 12 albums for 1 penny, plus 3 or 4 bucks for shipping. Then they would send you a card to see if you wanted the album of the month. You were required to buy 3 of them in the next 2 years.

I had no idea they were still in business. We moved to Bahrain around about the time I got into music in my pre-teens, and then everything was a pirated tape for a dinar. I do remember buying some stuff from CH right before that, and sending back a CD my little sister wanted out of spite. Take that, sister!

When I wanted to sign up my Dad pointed out a record “ The Smoker You Drink The Player You Get “ and said, “ If they send you this you’re gonna have to pay for it “.
Well I only received albums I wanted … and that Joe Walsh record wasn’t too bad either.

That sucks. My dad loved Joe Walsh. He was born in 1933! I got to listen to “Life”s Been Good” with my father in my 69 International Scout. I miss him!

When I was in college the Playmate of the Month would fill out one of those cards with my address on it, and you taped a penny to the card or something..? I forget, but I’m pretty sure I still have about half those CD’s in storage somewhere….

I saved BASIC computer files on cassettes! Texas Instruments Sinclair 1000. RAM was 1K.
