This is why science can’t be trusted. Orange County, Florida’s commission hired a consulting firm to study whether or not putting rent controls in place would be productive. The consulting firm noted that rent controls wouldn’t work, mainly because the supply of rental housing is being overwhelmed by demand. They went on to say that capping rents would further reduce supply. In other words, basic economic theory.

The county government is not happy that the facts didn’t fit their version of reality and are demanding a refund.

“If (commissioners) saw that a consultant who was supposed to do fact-finding on rent stabilization was so biased as to say you’re getting outside attention, then we really should get a refund on this report,” (County Commissioner) Bonilla said. “Unfortunately, it looks like they were not ready to do the job they were hired to do, and they were too biased to provide a report that we deserved.”

Says the commissioner who is pushing for rent control

Ha. This is perfect. Maybe we can start bankrupting all these outfits that suck up govt contract and grant money to do “research” (read: propoganda) when the government refuses pay them because they failed to deliver the “correct” conclusions in the govt funded study.

This may be the ultimate realization of “we pretend to work, and they pretend to pay us” writ large. It’s so fucked up I just have to laugh. Did the clownass demanding the refund read his own statement, and have any inkling how stupid he sounds? Oh, how I long to see reality destroy these morons.

Except this is backwards. This particular firm apparently submitted a report based on reality and gov won’t pay. Only the lying fraudulent firms will prosper under such a regime.

So if you’re not happy with county services you can get a refund of your taxes? Isn’t that what he’s saying?

    Big Ruckus D · June 7, 2022 at 3:08 pm

Afraid not. “It’s different when we do it!” Because reasons.

It’s a “she” – in fact all the commissioners are “shes”
The mayor has surrounded himself with women.

So it is. Speed reading has its downsides. Not as though it matters. In California, many men have become indistuguishable from women in both character and appearance.

Property taxes tripled or quadrupled a few years back in Capitol City county and all assessments had to be redone.
Most people laughed out loud at the bills and used the old blood from a turnip altruism to the dim drooling dullard double digit IQ minions of the state.
Squaw Lizzy Warren of the Bolshevik tribe has suggested price controls for everything, now you know why I’m going to the grocery almost daily.

“Science can’t be trusted”, Divemedic? Really? Sound like the consulting firm told the truth and government can’t be trusted.

    Divemedic · June 8, 2022 at 5:46 am

That’s the problem. Every researcher knows that you give them the results they want or you don’t get another contract

Skyler the Weird · June 8, 2022 at 6:01 am

The GovCo officials are mad cause usually ‘scientific research’ gives you the results you pay for.

“… it looks like they were not ready to do the job they were hired to do…”

No it doesn’t, what it looks like is that Orange County accidently hired a consultant with brains and integrity.
