An Electric Vehicle company is claiming that their electric school buses are “sending energy back to the grid to help conserve and reduce emissions.” They do nothing of the sort. All they are doing is returning a portion of the energy that they used in being charged back to the grid.

Energy is not created or destroyed, it merely changes form. In changing form, some of that energy is converted to heat, and is thus lost. Charging the bus causes losses as the batteries heat up. When the busses discharge into the grid, more energy is lost. Then the bus has to be charged again in order to be driven, meaning that even more energy is lost.

I don’t know if the left is stupid or thinks we are. On second thought, perhaps it is the left who is stupid, because they actually believe that it is possible to have perpetual motion devices. I guess arts majors don’t know anything about the First Law of Thermodynamics.

Not to put too fine a point on it, but batteries are D.C. and the grid is A.C. so there will also be losses in the conversion.

There are a lot of losses there. Changing voltage causes losses, changing AC to DC, then DC to AC causes more, converting the electric power to chemical (in the battery) causes still more. The point is, the electric buses are not putting any energy into the grid, only making the overall process more inefficient.

has nothing to do with science, it’s about feelings and an agenda…it won’t fix anything concerning “climate” change but it will make some people richer and leave all of us nothing…you will like it or else…

Perhaps some of them know better, but believe the political value of saying what they say, outweighs the actuality of wasting power. (Lying too, but when was the last time that crowd seemed to care about that?)

It’s like pointing out to the Tesla crowd that 20% of their charge (depending on location) is from coal. Not at all what the average Tesla driver wants to hear.

This is also what happens when you value political adeptness and conformity over logic, competence and skill.
Years ago, in my first, depressing career as a scientist, I was hired briefly to be an unregistered lobbyist (a scumbag job for sure) and was wining, dining and 69’ing NOAA employees. Virtually 100% of the women I met up with in mid-level policy positions had no scientific background or at most a BS in policy or “I love dolphins!” degrees from diploma mills. Their credentials were based on Affirmative action and having a vagina. It was really depressing, but short-lived.
I was at a meeting at the New England Aquarium where one of these silly girls was getting all het up about it ‘only’ costing 8 million dollars to fail for 2 weeks straight to unentangle a whale that got into some fishing gear, only to have it miraculously get unentangled one night and they needed more money for next time.
I got up, said that a local lobsterman, friend of mine, got sick of them fucking around where his gear was, and cut the lines off the stupid whale an hour before they got out there on the day in question, which took about 15 minutes, and I guess I used too many f-bombs about how many kids within walking distance of the aquarium went to bed hungry last night, with a bunch of idiots who can’t do their job spending 8 million bucks. Anyways, I went back to being a fisherman and mariner not long after.

At least The Who provided them with a catchy theme song in “Magic Bus”. Anyway, whether dyed in the wool true believing cult members, or simply yes men who parrot politically advantageous mouthfuls of bullshit, those of us who aren’t delusional dumbfucks, or whores shilling for career advancement, know the facts.

The real bitch is that facts no longer matter. This civilization wrecking scum has managed to capture enough power and control that they have – for now – functionally remade reality to their will. The eventual consequences of forcing such fiction will, of course, be horrible. Which is precisely why these sorts need to be dealt with preemptively.

Here’s another tidbit for the windmill freaks out there: they are induction generators, which means they have to have power from the grid before they can generate any power from the wind. So some fossil-fueled power plant will still be in operation.

The left has rarely understood anything involving work (W) and yes, they believe we are stupid, along with everyone else that isn’t them.
