I have been a life member of the NRA for about 25 or 30 years now. It cost me $300 back then. Before that, I was a recurring annual member. So I will say that I was surprised to get this email:

I haven’t gotten my magazines in more than a decade. That doesn’t stop them from bombarding me with requests for money from the NRA-ILA. Apparently, they have lost my membership information. Or maybe Wayne LaPierre just needs to add to the $100 million or so that he has stolen already.

No thanks. There are other organizations that are actually doing stuff to protect my rights. I donate my cash to FPC, and they are using it to kick some ATF ass.

Same boat, spent $800 on a lifetime membership. When I found out how much was stolen by the party elite, not another dime. Now my $ goes to GOA.

I joined the NRA for 5 years back in the 80s when I didn’t know any better. I now know the real history of that organization and would not give them a penny. Here is a link to some NRA history (from Time, no less.)

It seems their mission statement can change as easily as losing members records.

FPC, SAF, GOA – all more proactive than NRA and with a fraction of the resources.

FPC is taking it to ATF right now over the brace rule and the frame/receiver rule and getting results.

Yep, and I love reading them taunt ATF on Twitter(X)

I too was an (Annual) NRA member from about 1980… in the late ’90s I happened to encounter one of the then-Board Members (whose Name escapes me) in a non-Gun venue. I asked him straight up, “At what point does the Organization stand up and Publicly Declare that is Membership WILL NOT COMPLY with any ‘Gun Registration/Ban’ attempts… Oh Boy, thought he was gonna have a Heart Attack. Started sqweeling like Porky Pig sniffing Helium, then said that the Organization would NEVER advocate people ‘violating the law’ and that they would do ‘everything legally possible’ to oppose such”. So I answered, “You mean, like George Washington and the Boys did, “Legally”? End of Conversation, and I didn’t renew my membership.

I liked it better when they would send requests by mail……..with a prepaid return envelope. Used to tape that envelope to a brick and mail it back…….took them several months (and several bricks) to quit sending me stuff.

Yup, life member here too. I keep getting their rag – I figures it bleeds them of a little cash.
They called a couple years ago begging for $ and I told them that they were on the wrong side of the bump stock issue – never heard from them again. I couldn’t care about bump stocks, but they folded and shouldn’t have.

When I started buying guns about 10 years ago, I joined the NRA because I wanted to support the people that do the work to protect gun rights.
There were a number of groups I could have supported, but the NRA was the biggest and most known.
Now, like every organization in the world, not everyone in the NRA agreed with everyone else.
I did not know the ins and outs of all the internal conflicts but what eventually I noticed was a very large group was “not very fond” of Wayne.
So, there was a point that every time they sent a request for money or to re-up, I sent the letter back with “No money until Wayne is gone.”
My membership ran out some time ago and have not received any letters recently either…..
