Walt Disney Posthumously Canceled

Disney isn’t woke enough for the empire he founded. They are removing mentions of him from theme parks. I will let Orwell say it for me:

Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right.

Not News

So the press is now surprised that UPS employees are stealing firearms shipments? We in the gun culture have known that for years.

About 15 years ago, I was an IDPA competitor. In those days, I was shooting black stainless Sig 229’s of the 357Sig persuasion in competition. It was pretty common for me to send them to the Sig performance center to get work done. Because of employee theft, UPS had a requirement that all handguns had to be sent overnight and insured. This was way too expensive at more than $200 per handgun.

Now I didn’t think that I should be forced to pay more to UPS because UPS couldn’t keep their employees from stealing. The law said that those who shipped firearms via common carrier had to notify the carrier of the contents of the shipment. So I would always list the contents as “Sig Sauer Model 229” and ship it standard and insured. It cost less than $30 and still complied with the law.

What Election?

Before I get to the point of this post, let me set up a bit of groundwork:

So now that we have the facts out of the way, the point of this post.

We are now less than 3 months away from the midterm elections. The Democrats are on a path to economic and political disaster and it is killing them in the polls. Biden’s approval rating is a dismal -16.3. The number of people who disapprove of him is nearly double the number who approve. Trump’s approval is -15.1.

It isn’t any better for the rest of the field. The Republicans have a 72% chance of winning a majority in the house.

So with all of that going on, why are the Democrats continuing down what is obviously a self destructive path? Why do they continue making decisions that are obviously unpopular with the voters?

I can only come up with one logical answer: The polls don’t matter. Their popularity doesn’t matter.

They know that they can’t lose. The fix is in. There is no other explanation that fits the facts.

Homopox

Can’t call it monkeypox. However, now that we know that 98% of those who are getting that particular virus are men who have sex with men, we can call it homopox.

While anyone can get monkeypox, the current outbreak is overwhelmingly affecting sexually active gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men. In fact, our recent study which looked at 528 monkeypox infections since the start of the outbreak found that 98% of these infections had occurred in this group.

So don’t have sex with other dudes. Got it. I guess I’m safe, then.

Don’t Do Business with Californians

A rich guy in California ordered a custom, hand made car from a manufacturer in Indiana. He made partial payment on the $200,000 car, but then missed one of his payments before finally paying in full 8 months later. The manufacturer told him that due to the payment delay, his car would be at the end of the queue.

The rich guy got angry and called police. The DA refused to prosecute, saying it was a civil matter. So he sued in California. The court dismissed it, saying that the case would have to be filed in Indiana.

So rich guy called his friend, who happened to be the Sheriff of San Mateo County, California. The sheriff sent 4 cops to Indiana with a search warrant, and they raided the car maker’s business. Then they froze his bank accounts and seized his electronic records. Now the car maker is being charged with two felonies.

In 19 years of business, Racop has never failed to deliver an order of his 1966 Batmobile replica. Given the current charges and other supply issues due to the pandemic, he doesn’t plan to continue his work for much longer. He only intends to complete his current orders before retirement.

The lesson I take from this? Don’t do business with anyone in California. Ever. What scares me even more is this: How long will it be before California cops cross state lines to go after gun and ammo dealers?

Security

This is kind of a continuation to the “loose lips” post of a few days ago.

Data point number one: I read a post over at Bayou Renaissance Man that was talking about the inner city dwellers becoming rather cagy about letting people know what they were keeping in their kitchens.

If there are a couple of things you learn about in the inner city, it’s that there are snitches and informants everywhere, and you learn to keep your mouth shut, both as survival skills. That is what I was driving at with my post the other day: keep your mouth shut. Keep your preps private.

Data point two: The people in the inner cities are worried about losing supplies. So are the shopkeepers. In New York, stores are locking up their SPAM. We know, it’s been going on for a long time in Hawaii. Still, people are getting desperate.

It isn’t just SPAM, either. cigarettes, over-the-counter medications, contraceptives, liquor, teeth-whitening strips, and health and beauty products. As you think about this, ask yourself what your preparedness stash is worth, and what will people do if they find out you have it?

The time for advertising what you have is over. It’s time to start thinking about preserving what you have as a safeguard.

  • Keep your mouth shut
  • Don’t tell new friends about anything
  • Don’t tell old friends about much
  • Remember, anyone can become a snitch or a thief. Unless it’s someone you would trust with your life, don’t trust them with your secrets.

Anniversary

Exactly 41 years ago today (Aug 1, 1981), MTV went on the air and began playing music videos 24 hours a day. The first video played was “Video Killed the Radio Star.”

The number of videos began to decline less than a decade later, so that by the year 2000, Mtv played videos for only 8 hours a day.

By 2008, Mtv was playing music videos only 3 hours each day.

Now, Mtv has several channels, each with different content. MTV Classic is the only one that shows music videos, with different shows airing different blocks of music videos from different eras.

For example, one show called ‘90s Nation plays music videos from the 1990s for an hour. There is an 80’s show that lasts for an hour a day.

It seems that Video may have killed the Radio Star, but the Internet killed Mtv.
