Opponents of Florida’s ballot initiative to greatly cut property taxes, both Republicans and Democrats, have been scaremongering voters with predictions of the bad things that will happen once they aren’t stealing your money. The latest is telling parents how localities won’t be able to afford sponsoring summer camp, and this is bad because poor parents rely on summer camp as a free daycare program.
Why am I forced to pay for daycare for someone else’s crotch fruit? Get your sperms donor to pay his child support.

I went to summer camp in my early teens (late 1960s) and my parents paid for it. If they hadn’t paid for it I wouldn’t have went, obviously.
What was once optional is now considered essential.

Also note that public school is de facto daycare, given how completely it fails at its purported “education” mission.
Every summer you have the rabble complaining that they have to find some way to control their children during the months school isn’t in session. “Free” school – down to kindergarten, preschool, and sometimes outright daycare in some places – is a place to park their spawn during the day.
I pay for “free” daycare via my real estate taxes. It’s something like 65% of my annual tax bill. Even though I have no children, it’s “fair” that I pay for it, and the people with the most children, who tend not to be property owners, ride on my back. That’s called “democracy”, I think.

The next step will be Washington Monument syndrome where essential services will be cut to teach the voters via pain, not to interfere with our funding. Note, it is always the essential services that get cut, rather than any pork or waste.

This is good, this is very good. This exposes the heart-string emotional hooks that have been used to manipulate people for a long time. “Won’t somebody think of the CHILDREN!” whilst clutching at pearls and gnashing of teeth.
As has been mentioned by many, including myself, nothing will change until the pain becomes unbearable. The fact we are FINALLY seeing a reaction of not-my-problem to these types of issues (everywhere), is your signal that the pain has reached that threshold for some of the people. Once enough of them reach that point, it’s pitchforks and guillotines. Expect something to alter that trajectory.

The preponderance of evidence is that nobody gives the smallest damn about “the children”. Else “public school” would be a very different thing, and pedophiles like Jeffrey Epstein wouldn’t have been largely immune to prosecution.

The towns subsidize summer rec programs in Florida? Ours up here have to be self-sustaining, meaning they have to make enough money to pay the counselors, pay for transport to the trips, and pay for the places traveled to. The extent of public funds is in the storage of equipment for the school year, and the first aid & CPR training they get before the camp starts.

Back in ’93 when we only had 2 little ones, I tole the ole lady the math of her working and paying for lunches and time and car wear and tear and all the bs she’d have to put up with at work, versus we not having to pay for strange other women to have mental impact on our kiddos, and the usual virus et al exposure encountered at those day care places. The choice was pretty fkn simple. She got to be “just” a Mom and the little ones had it so right, that we had another one.
No sense sending money out of the family, that can be kept in the family. Derp derp, we’re surrounded by morons incapable of thinking, and Judgement Time is on they’z all asses right now. Weep weep, waahhhhh. Think John Lennon song “Cry Baby Cry” Cry mthfkrs, like in Pinnochio when the little boys who lived for “fun” started breying and growing tails out of their asses, those asses they became. A while back, I saw an article with a couple bemoaning the high price of day care. They stated that they spent more than half of their combined take-home pay for day care.
I could fix their problem easily, the one that makes the least should stay their ass home and raise the kids.
