Amendment 3 hasn’t passed yet, but the cuts have already begun:

I am OK with those cuts. I don’t need fireworks and parades to be paid out of my taxes.

The odd part is, even if it DOES pass, it won’t affect this year’s taxes (those taxes are due now). The cuts won’t take place until next year and the year after.

It’s obvious- the government is scared of losing out on carte blanche access to your wallet. The cops will have to stop building $75 million health spas.

To put this Sheriff’s gym in perspective: The Florida Panthers’ NHL training facility only cost $65 million, and it includes 2 regulation ice rinks, locker room, gym, pickleball courts, live music venue, and a 7500 sf team store.

I detest property taxes. Apologists cry, “But how do you expect government to function? How could we pay for highway repair, school buses and welfare benefits without property taxes?” From what I know highway repairs are paid by gasoline and tire sales. The property taxes pay the largest proportion of public schools which are demonic enclaves of mental abuse and ritual. One of my favorite lines from the Declaration of Independence: “He (King George, but substitute present day government) has erected a multitude of new offices, and sent hither swarms of officers to harass our people, and eat out their substance.” I live in a house I designed and built personally, never had a mortgage, I’m 70 and have never received a social security check nor will I ever, but if I don’t pay the property tax I will be marched out of here by gunpoint if necessary, as the County Treasurer promised me, and “We will sell your house to someone who loves their country.”

And people still live in that dump? Unbelievable.

This is what they do. When the free flow of money is threatened, they find ways to maximize the pain on taxpayers without hurting themselves.

It is as predicable as the sun rising in the morning: When government is threatened with cuts or austerity measures, the very first they cut are services which are most visible to the public and/or which are most-used by them. Why? As a sort of punishment. You’ll notice that bureaucratic blot, expensive perks and the like – which ought to be low-hanging fruit for the budget-conscious – never get mentioned or touched by these “public servants”….

And true to form the cancelled events are all minor budget items with outsized public visibility.

Wow, so many exercise machines, sitting idle. I bet they never all get used at the same time.
Maybe they should add a stylist shop. And a grocery store. A full-time medical dispensary complete with an RN would be nice. Is there a swimming pool ? How about a couple bowling lanes ? I bet I could have created a functionally-equivalent facility for less than $5mm

I appreciate the Sheriff’s efforts at setting the narrative, “a little uncommon to show people”, and the the dog-and-pony-show shows us the things the Sheriff wants us to see to fit his narrative. But having seen the filming of dog-and-pony shows myself, I have to wonder what else was not shown but is part of that multi-story facility. It also allows him to dodge the city council’s request to see the facility itself. “It’s already been shown on the news, what else do you need to see?”

I am voting yes on 3. Most news channels seem intent on helping to defeat it. Why? My house is worth less than $250,000. Why is it a problem to let me out of paying $2000 dollars a year? I have no children in the public school system. The main reason I’m yes on 3 is I don’t want my house taken in my old age for failure to pay. Civil Forfeiture is a problem nationwide. Divemedic, you have more piss and vinegar than I, and are a better writer than me. Break down City Manager pay!
