What seems like easy common sense to you turns out to be insurmountable to someone who thinks meat comes from the grocery store. Growing enough food to feed NYC isnt going to happen in Central Park.

The point I was trying to make, poorly, is that it is far easier to teach someone the skills needed to farm, than it is to teach them to code. Coding requires a sufficient level of logic and reasoning. Farming….does not. That’s not to say farmers are stupid, it’s just that the reasoning skills they do need are far more common than the ones a coder uses.

Farming is agricultural science. Growing a few veggies in the garden is more complex than simply plant and water and growing on a commercial scale with irrigation and equipment is as complex as running a small factory. Both are beyond the skill set of a Leftoid keyboard warrior.

Avid home gardener here. Growing food for even two people isn’t as easy as you might think. We moved from VT to Florida and I’ve been re-learning everything I thought I knew about growing food. For 12 years now, still not done. To anyone that didn’t grow up on a farm, it IS rocket science, not to mention a lot of hard work.

You are not wrong. It’s not easy. I still wouldn’t call it rocket science though . Even though there are way more variables. Except it requires extreme planning, unbreakable dedication, a very good memory, and extreme attention to detail. I’d definitely say rocket science is easier. It you screw up in rocketry you probably won’t die. Since you don’t need rockets to live. If you screw up in farming you will die. Slowly.
It’s not just the growing that’s hard. You’ve got the harvesting, processing, and storage. Not too recently I got to show my little brother what goes into processing wheat. Without any mechanical aid except for a grinder. Just scythe, flail, basket, and sieve. He was surprised at how much work went into the process. All that work and you haven’t even got to storage or cooking. He couldn’t understand why people put that much effort into it. I explained to him that it’s an extremely long term perishable good. When refined and baked you get several fairly good and calorie dense foods.

The learning curve is enormous on growing food. You can have beginners luck by overplanting seedlings and having a good water year, but the stars don’t line up for abundance every year even if you are doing things right. The bulk of what you grow from apples to corn is subject to attack by native and invasive insects which require specific treatments at very specific times or you lose it all. Birds, deer, groundhogs, and racoons also take a toll. The reliance on modern fertilizers and abatements complicates things and the process of using traditional green “manure” like buckwheat or oats to restore soil nitrogen is little understood. The prospect of urban people killing off the countryside and then taking up the slack producing food there is a pipe dream. The very fact that this clown thinks “coding” is some kind of valid profession or that it can only be done by urbanites in an urban setting speaks to his high level of delusion.

I’m still waiting to see how this whole “AI vibe coding” thing works out, but in the short term “coding” (a term formerly used for medical billing clerks) isn’t a great choice for a career right now. The job market has crashed, as have wages for the few remaining jobs.
Yes, there are some superstar programmers out there pulling $400K or better, but there aren’t many of them, and a big chunk of their workday is spent training their automated replacements.
I wouldn’t be surprised to see “coders” go the way of elevator operators, bathroom attendants, switchboard operators, milkmen, ice cutters, keypunch operators, phrenologists, pinsetters, soda jerks, etc.

These idiots think that you can learn to farm on the fly for any sort of production, well enough but they don’t think ahead which is what half of farming or even small scale gardening is. They seem to think you toss some seeds at the earth and magic happens every time.

Of course coastal elites think that it’s easy to raise crops. Bloomberg dardued that farming was a process “ Dig a hole, put a seed in it, water it then walk away until it’s time to harvest”. That impressed people.
