When I was in the military, I spent a bit of time as part of the Master at Arms force. One of our duties was escorting prisoners from the brig to various places: chow, to courts martial, medical appointments, etc.

When we were escorting them, we carried sidearms and deadly force was authorized to prevent their escape. We were permitted to use deadly force on the prisoner or on anyone who was attempting to help the prisoner escape.

With that in mind, watch this video of foreign nationals attacking Federal law enforcement in the performance of their duties in an attempt to assist another foreign national in escaping custody.

It wouldn’t take that many. Once a few get shot, the rest will stop doing this shit. The only reason this happens is because we allow it to happen with almost no consequences.

“almost” no consequences? Consequences are meted out so seldom, that I can’t recall any, offhand. Consequences should be handed out like beads at Mardi Gras.

I agree with your reasoning 100%. I, too, was part of that force, albeit the whole four years of my enlistment, but we were taught to only use deadly force to prevent a felony. NEVER shoot to wound, only to kill. The reason was that if you wouldn’t kill, there is no reason to pull your weapon – plus, dead people cannot testify.

Our orders were to yell “Halt” a single time, then shoot. Some jokingly said they would do both at the same time. The only time I recall anyone being shot was when some moron tried crashing the base security gate while the base was locked down because they were moving nuclear weapons around the base. The Marines at the gate shot his stupid ass.

That gate was still locked down the next morning, and I was late to muster because I had to go around to another gate.
